^Yes, I thought that too. After seeing "Rise," I watched my Blu Rays of the Original and "Beneath," and the impact of the Statue of Liberty and the apocalyptic ending of "Beneath" took on an even deeper tone, as opposed to "Rise" having spoiled any big surprise.

That scene was confirmed as an "official reference" on the Rise of the PotA Facebook page. Apparently the name George Taylor is mentioned or in print somewhere, too. :)

I just saw this yesterday afternoon, and I strongly believe that this is the best "Apes" movie in 40 years. I have always loved the original, liked "Beneath," but hated "Escape," "Conquest," "Battle" and Tim Burton's "Spoof of the Planet of the Apes." I was completely pulled in, entertained...
