why would you consider spending that much money on a guest OS? if you have an XP license, use that, and save yourself $300, even if vista does work flawlessly in a virtual machine. CJ
later this year, vmware is going to be releasing virtualization software for intel based macs. not sure if they will release vmware server (free for windows and linux), but if so, this is a great solution for mac owners who don't want to pay $80 for parallels. CJ
well that's why i wanted to ask you, since it sounded like you had reasons why it was better. on that topic, it's what we have been talking about in the last 15 posts or so. CJ
thanks for the clarification about avid/final cut.
exactly. i was originally challenging the "high end video editing capabilities" statement. mac does have some impressive software, and i hope it continues to gain market share, apple puts out a quality product every time. i havent used windows...
i'm no professional, but i thought avid was what most professionals used. right on their website, it says "Equally powerful on Mac and PC". final cut is $999, and avid xpressDV is $695. upgrade to avid xpress Pro for another $295. i dont know what the feature comparison looks like between those...
alright, so a program or two 'working a little better on a mac' does not equal "high end video editing capabilities". i'm sure there are advantages, but if (mostly) the SAME tools are available, there is no blowout. CJ
what capabilities do you speak of? macs have no special features related to video editing, you can accomplish the same tasks with a PC, personal preferences aside. CJ
yep. windows is just as open, whether running on its own drive, or running in parallels. so you need to protect against spyware and viruses. of course, only your windows installation within parallels will be vulnerable to spyware (not your mac os installation), so you will still have to maintain...
such a tired argument. so, why do macs have such a low number of spyware/virus instances for every percent market share compared to windows? is it impossible that the mac os is technically superior to windows? CJ
