I've got no problem if season 2 is negated and ignored. I didn't like it and will probably never watch it again. Spending 90% of the time in "present day" 2024 was boring Star Trek. I will always believe that was done just to save money.

As much as I loved SNW, this is better. It just pure Star Trek yet modern as well. This is what other recent show runners and filmmakers didn’t think could be done. Where has Matalas been? To image what seasons 1 and 2 could have been in his hands.
Like others have said, this was a fantastic episode. This felt like a true return to the Berman days. A classic problem with a quintessential Trek solution. If that wasn't enough, they throw us another classic Trek trope. The mean bad thing trying to destroy the ship isn't a mean bad thing...
I finally watched the first episode and I really enjoyed it. Better start than previous season. If I had one nit to pick; I thought some of the acting from Stewart and Frakes felt a little stiff. Then again, I've never thought Frakes was a particularly great actor, he's a much better director...
