DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

As far as I can tell this album was released on DVD last year since I read reviews on Amazon.com that were written last year. It was probably a test market disc that is just now getting a full release. Chris

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I bought the world's first DVD Album by The Sun. The DVD defaults to PCM 2.0 on my player so I needed a display to select the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. I have that player connected to a projector and prefer not to turn the projector on to listen to music so I need to figure out how to access the...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

The SACD layer couldn't be played on DVD or CD players and SACD started out as single layer and damage was done right from the start for that format. If the CD side had been compliant, I think DualDisc could have been a minor success. Since DualDisc always contained a DVD side that can be played...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I bought them for both. I wanted to be able to play the discs in my car and had no way to do that with DVD-A. It is clear the marketplace wasn't interested for whatever reason, but I do think the CD problem was a serious issue. Chris

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I think there were just too many million players already in households that couldn't deal with them. Chris

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

The CD side problems couldn't be overcome and everybody involved should have known that. With DVD-Audio already a failure, partly because of confusion and partly because it is likely only going to appeal to a very small market, it is an puzzle what market DualDisc was expected to find. Chris

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I understand DualDiscs are a real pain for retailers. Call me stupid but I just ordered the Bjork Surrounded 7-disc DualDisc set. CD side not playing is a pain but my PC can read them and copy most to CD-R so I can play them in my auto. CD side not playing in my DVD player hasn't been an issue...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I still don't know what to expect about the new DVD Album or if it will find any market at all. I still continue to buy DualDiscs and the CD side continues to not work in most of my players. Although I can live with that, I wonder what happens when someone buys one and it can't play in their CD...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

So just like DualDisc, the DVD Album can include DVD-Audio. I hope this time, you can tell what is on disc. With DualDisc it is sometimes difficult from the case. It doesn't look like anything the consumer will want once again unless having AAC or MP3 transferrable to a PC or iPod or MP3 player...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I agree 96kHz/24-bit would have been preferrable for all DVD-A DualDiscs but the 48kHz/24-bit DualDiscs I have sound great. I consider those hi-rez, is that not correct? Chris

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

If it had been possible to make DualDisc to meet the standards of both DVD and CD and play in all DVD and CD players, it would have been a great format. As it is, I buy them because they are often the best format for a given recording and I can play them in my players, although the CD side is...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I don't think there is any chance both of these formats could co-exist although I do like both. There just isn't enough market since CD is good enough for most everybody. I hope you are right about one or both making a comeback but I think the chances are less than slim. Chris

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

Although I don't understand the technical limitations of DSD, I have read many state their concern. All I know is my DVD-Audio discs when done poorly are not very good. Every Hybrid SACD I have sounds comparable to my good DVD-Audio discs and every one plays in every player I have, as CD quality...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I don't think lower prices would have solved the problem for either format. I think the only companies making any money are the low volume high price labels and their profits are likely not great. I suspect Sony has lost a fortune on SACD and is no longer in a position to take such huge hits. It...

DualDisc may not be "all that" according to this

I certainly agree the DualDisc was not a good idea and Hybrid SACD and CD/DVD-A 2 disc sets were a much better idea but none of these ideas have worked in the market place. I only recently got started in SACD/DVD-A and like it. I own about an equal number of each type DualDisc, SACD, and DVD-A...
