I'm with you guys on fond remembrances of the newsletters. I had a few of the later years, and several years ago gave them to someone who was developing an interest in collecting LDs. My justification to myself was that I was mostly done acquiring LDs, and at that time, you could still access...
Just caught up with it last night, and loved it. I'm always fascinated with location stuff, even while mourning the good things that are gone.
(One thing that kills me in IAMMMMW is the sight of that State Theatre in Long Beach.)
Exactly what I came here to post.
After having watched the reconstruction on Reed's 2.76:1 screen and being transported quite happily back to 1963, I let just 24 hours go by, then holed up in my own inner sanctum for the commentary. I loved the pacing and the promise of it from the start...
We thought we'd never live to see the day!
And thanks to cadavra for mentioning that the commentary runs through the intermission.
That's to be my very own special and private treat tomorrow night!
I am practically speechless at the quality of this release. Those of us watching at Reed's house on Thursday are saving (well, we're supposed to be!) the restored cut for then, but I've just quickly reviewed the general release, and have been through some of the extras, and, to paraphrase Ron...

I know a lot of collectors leave shrinkwrap on things, and I used to keep it on records and laserdiscs when feasible (I think it's still on a few of my LPs from as far back as the late 1960s), but not any more. I thought of slitting this one more out of consideration for the next person in case...
Has everyone's copy been all right so far? I mean the Criterion packaging itself. Mine looks like there was a malfunction on the assembly line, with an out-of-square slipcase and a digipack forced in and noticeably bent. I'll either contact Amazon about a replacement (or maybe just a return...
Please leave it open. There will still be review threads and all, but this has grown to be a comforting "pillar" in the spirit of the Lawrence thread, and it would be unthinkable to be without that one.
Also, Ron -- though I saw that original length version at whatever extremely tender age it was, it's apparent that more than I've ever remembered about a couple of scenes will be revealed. So I didn't read the spoilers, either. It shouldn't really matter all that much, but this film and this...
