Wouldn't know. Was afraid to find out so the first thing I did was put that Spigen film on it (which I linked to earlier and I'm a huge fan of, in both performance and ease of application, as well as price) and have never looked back. If you plan on using it without a screen protector, I'm...
And let me be clear: a current DSLR with good glass will be superior. I do not mean to imply it's better than a current DSLR. But its pics are more pleasing to me than my now 10-year old DSLR (with some great Canon lenses that are still relevant today), in a way that the iPhone X wasn't.
As you...
Despite not being thrilled with a super large phone, I continue to be awed by the camera. I won't blow this thread up with more large shots, but as you can tell from my previous post, I photograph guitars a lot. My own, others in shops that are beautiful, etc. There's a lot of fine detail in...
Could be, since I also had to un-pair and re-pair (actually full reset) my Watch to get it to pair to the new phone. Also we both waited several generations. I've been texting my buddy who gets a new iPhone and Mac every year (no, not Ron lol) because he's head of his company's IT department...
Taking old iPhone off of the account did not help. I had to manually (through Home app, in the new iPhone...how ironic) remove and reset both HomePods and then re-pair them with the new iPhone (using the same app). Now I can ask Siri to turn on/off my bedroom lights again. That’s the only thing...
Maybe the removal of the X from the chain will help. I'll test. Right now my iPhone will link to my Homepod, but there's an app I have for my lights where if I tell Siri to turn them on/off they will do so. Now it says my iPhone is not on the same network, despite being deactivated and reset and...
Or you could pay Apple $49 to replace your battery if you're not sure about wanting to spring for a 12

Unfortunately I learned the hard way you have to unpair the watch from your old phone first...from the old phone. Well I’d already reset that phone. So I had to reset the watch as well to allow it to pair. If you have a cellular watch, choose “reset but keep cellular plan” or something like...
I don’t think it’s any skin off my nose because if I’m not mistaken if I end up regretting it, there’s instructions to copy your SIM to eSIM if you decide you want to free up that slot in the future. Just saved me the hassle of doing it now since I have no imminent need for a second SIM. And...
Yeah just did a SIM card swap. I think reading the article it said if you want to do dual SIM in the future they recommended doing the swap and leaving the eSIM open for future use? I don’t know anything about it so I’m just parroting what I recall reading.
I’ve done some indoor low light...
I was about to say that this phone (and others of the same generation as I’m sure it’s competitors are close in quality) have reached a level where I feel comfortable leaving my DSLR at home for all but the most critical shooting needs.
If I’m shooting a friend’s wedding, or seeing one of the...
There is the EXIF data if anyone was interested in seeing that. For the second image.
Keep in mind both shots are handheld by me lying in bed while on a Zoom call and a little jittery from caffeine (aka work fuel). So these are not ideal shooting situations.
I took another shot and manually turned down the exposure (by holding finger down on iPhone screen and then pulling down) until the image in the viewfinder looked like what I saw in real life. Cropped, converted to JPEG, uploaded to imgur, and here it is:
It's actually a little more exposure than my naked eye sees (I'm literally looking at it right now as I type). If my room lights would get just a little brighter then it would match the photo.
Okay I'm posting this here. This is a converted to JPEG from the iPhone 12 Pro Max's HEIC format via my Mac's Preview program, on "highest" jpeg image quality. No other processing applied (although I think imgur does some stripping of info, and I cropped the photo to eliminate the unneeded image...
Typing this from the new phone. Went smoothly. Spigen makes an amazing case and screen protector.
Early thoughts.
Definitely confirm the size works for you if you’re unsure. I knew I was getting a two handed phone and that’s what I got.
The yellower-whites? I think that’s because “True Tone”...
I don't pay for iCloud and I have way too much on my phone for the free 5GB tier, so that's not really an option. It's either going to be from phone to phone or from the Finder on Mac from the latest backup.
Well I admit I’m a little lost at what Nelson went through. In all my upgrades all I’ve ever done is, in the early days: plug it in to the Mac where the backup was, and in the later versions, lay one right beside the other and Apple’s process automatically moved everything by scanning that...
Nelson, if you're talking about the morphing QR code similar to this:
then I have used that before, on the X (going from I think it was the 8). It went relatively smoothly.
I did pre-emptively delete all my music files on my iPhone so it won't take so long to move all my other stuff to the new...
@DavidJ I realized I didn’t answer your question about my screen protector. I bought this one:
Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector [Glas.tR EZ Fit] designed for iPhone 12 Pro Max (2020) [6.7 inch] [Case Friendly] - 2 Pack
Thanks that's actually incredibly helpful! I think I'm going to stand pat with the Spigen one I bought temporarily, until I see what either the leather or rubber (whatever it's called) offers in terms of protection. I don't plan on dropping my phone, but it would be nice if there was a little...
Hi David, thanks! I got my Spigen case and it seems like it would do the trick, but I wanted to see if the Apple case was superior, in which case I'd put in my preorder ASAP for store pickup tomorrow.
On a positive note, looks like USPS will in fact get me my screen protector today, which will...
Did you get the official Apple clear case, with the Magsafe thing? If so, what do you think of it? Can you post any pics, or talk about it's thickness, and impressions you have of it (grippiness, prone to showing wear easily, etc.) because the pics on the Apple site aren't great.
Thanks!
Well it's a race to my place. My screen protector is being shipped via USPS from South Orange County (I live in L.A. County) so I'm hoping since it's only about 60 miles away will get it here on or before when my 12 Max Pro arrives on Friday. Thank goodness the election mail has largely been...
I agree with most of that comment about “the life I used to lead”. Except now that my work is easing up a bit (not because I am getting time-reduced, but rather completed some major deadlines on projects) I plan to travel around a lot by bike and car to remote places around SoCal. Get...
