You should ask if it's a like for like. I had thought about doing this right when the HP2 came out, and they quoted me the same price/service (as you say, it's a swap not a repair) and they had an HP1 in store that they were prepared to do it right there and then (and by this time the HP1 I...

Let's give ourselves a little grace. I know it sounds weird to say, but the internet and social media were pretty different six years ago. Influencers and their tactics weren't as well known as they are today. And we as individuals change over time as well. I don't even want to contemplate all...

Haha I actually have the exact opposite observation. Looks will get you a long way on social media. Look at all of the most popular female influencers across social media, the majority of them are physically attractive.

Thanks Doug. TBH I don't listen to the HP anymore, which is why I won't be buying the new one. When I did a full 7.2.4 upgrade of the HT last year, I ended up moving most of the old system (which still performed well) into the bedroom.

His REW measurements are pretty telling. There is a bit of a lift in the 300Hz - 2kHz range for the new HP vs. the old HP so that could definitely explain why he feels the new ones sound better, as much of what we hear in music lives in that range. Also I don't mean to imply that the range is...

As an owner of what used to be a pair of original HomePods, but now is down to one working HomePod, and am likely not going to purchase the new revision, I have a slightly different take on this. In Marques's review, he mentioned that at its height, the OG HP had 6% of the smart speaker market...

    Apple HomePod

One of my stereo pair of the OG HomePod died a year or so ago. I held off "repairing" it (which was actually Apple just selling me what I assume is a refurb for $270) when I heard rumors that a new version was coming out. With less drivers and incompatibility with the original HomePod, I am...

The one thing I think all can agree on (fans and detractors alike) is that the HomePod did not meet Apple's sales expectations, and subsequently the product was discontinued due to that. This isn't the first or last Apple product that will be discontinued. Where my view differs from the "it was...

re: smart assistant IQ. I will fully agree Siri is way behind Alexa and Google Asst. (though neither are perfect, my housemate has an Alexa and she can be dumb as a rock and hard of hearing as well). But I'm okay with that. Why? Because of Apple's superior privacy handling to either of the...

I will slightly disagree. If what you were after was a smart speaker with an emphasis on "smart" yes they were overpriced. If you were after a great sounding speaker first with a smart assistant as an add-on, they were not only overpriced, they were the only one in their price class. It says...

It's not a surprising decision based on what I assume were lackluster sales. That said, I love my stereo pair and find myself rarely turning on my big system unless I'm truly doing critical listening or playing high def audio media (DVD-A, SACD, BD-A).

Hey Nelson, what's good? I too love my HomePod pair. There is a rumor of the smaller, cheaper version, but if you love the sound, I doubt the smaller/cheaper one will be better (or even equal) in sound. If you love the sound quality (which is admitted the strong suit of HomePod vs. Alexa/Google...

Might want to be careful with using labels like audio snobs. A good number of us here at Home Theater Forum care about sound quality. That’s kind of the point of this forum. I don’t wander into car forums and call them car snobs.

We do indeed differ. My main rig (two of them) are a 5.1 and 7.1 system. But I refuse to buy something that sounds poor when replaying music even on a casual level. The HomePod let me retain very good sounding music that integrated with my Apple Music and answered most any question I threw at...

    Apple HomePod

As I’ve said before, sound quality was my main reason for buying the HomePod. But I figured Apple would improve Siri. They put an A8 processor in there and it has nothing to do but play music and run Siri. By including an A8 Apple gave itself room to make Siri smarter. And while they do that...

You have a right to your opinion, but the facts are that Apple collects much less data than Google Apple uses it primarily for internal purposes to sell you their products and improve how their products/services meet your needs, versus Google who will give (sell) your data to many more partners...

Sounds cool, but unfortunately I don’t subscribe to any of those services. I’m pretty tied into the Apple ecosystem (both for Apple Music and hardware including phones iPads and laptops). But like I said, going through HomePod is a much easier process for me. Just was comparing it to going...

Writing in this thread made me turn on my AVR for the heck of it. I forgot there are a couple of other things that annoy me about that workflow, and it may be due to Pioneer, or Airplay, I'm not sure. A delay in command responsiveness. Whether I'm skipping tracks, changing volume, there's about...

I use my bedroom receiver primarily for movies, so it’s usually on the wrong input. And the Media Server setting on the Pio takes a while to show up on the iDevice. So I have to find the remote (which I’ve usually managed to misplace because that’s my life), power on the receiver, press Net and...

I can hook my iPhone to my pioneer as well. But I have to power up the pio, select media server, wait a bit for it to become active, then hook my phone up, the speak into the phone. First world problems I know, but even though I can have that functionality it’s not as easy as walking into the...

    Apple HomePod

As many of us have said, the decision as to whether or not a HomePod is "worth it" boils down to how important the following things are to you. Are you invested in the Apple ecosystem and/or are an Apple Music subscriber? If yes to either or both, then HomePod makes sense. How important is...

Sorry to hear that Mark, I hope you get it figured out. My experience with Siri on HP has been mostly positive. It's been responsive ever since I plugged it in (with the only exception being when the wi-fi router failed in my room), and the limitations have been with Siri's "intelligence" (or...

Also, it 100% passes the Sarah MacLachlan I Love You bass test. If you don't know what it is, cue the song up. If you do, and wonder what the heck I'm talking about, your system didn't pass the test.
