A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

 touche! For me, it was Windows Millennium Edition. Damn that thing made me want to throw all of those MS programmers off of a cliff! :o

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

Oh, I believe you, there are queen bees and worker bees and drones in every industry so in that sense, you could equate being a director to being any person hired doing any job. But software doesn't, in general, generate the same emotional and visceral response from people (programmers aside)...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

My point wasn't one of ownership. It was the director-for-hire-equal-to-a-software-programmer analogy Chuck used in post 665. Whereas a random programmer can be replaced and the outcome will likely be very similar to what it would have been with him, subbing out a film's director would likely...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

I agree I don't think the film-to-software analogy is appropriate. As Moe says, nowadays directors are the creative force, vision and often the writer or genesis of the idea. So it's not like Fox could've said "okay we don't like Lucas, someone else make Star Wars". Without Lucas there is no SW...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

I probably "heard" it in the theater, but since I hadn't seen the first two by that time (too young) I likely didn't get it.

Just to show that you can have new ROFLMAO moments for old films you're familiar with... A little background. I was too young to see Raiders and Temple in the theaters. So I saw Crusade and that was the movie I saw the most while in high school, once in the theater, a couple of times on video...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

You know what's really ironic is how insistent we all get about color timing when the very nature of all of our displays varies so greatly in terms of color rendition! Just look at your local Best Buy with all of the TV lined up in rows, showing the same programming, and how color varies from...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

Regarding the opening titles aliasing issue I brought up earlier in the thread for Indy 3: I can report the aliasing is indeed there...but from a normal viewing distance (for me this is about 10 feet away from a 60" screen) the effect is nowhere near as noticeable as it was on the DVD version...

Thanks RAH for checking. And thanks Colin for chiming in with your impressions. And like I said, I was happy with the DVD transfer of Indy 3 at the time, so it was really weird that the fonts on the title screen were so jagged when everything else looked good. Maybe the fonts are wonky. I recall...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

I understand that. I understand that HD is 1920x1080 pixels and will never be as smooth as true film fonts. But what I saw in the DVD of Indy 3 goes above and beyond any aliasing I've seen for any other major, high budget motion picture. I'm sure maybe there are some films where the titles were...

Now I'm not a pixel peeper, and I am probably a bit more forgiving than most when it comes to dissecting and evaluating transfers (as in, I generally don't do it). In fact, I recently re-watched the DVD of Indy 3 in order to test out the new 24p functionality on my Oppo BDP-93 (firmware enabled...
