    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

If Donnie ended that universe before it started, then there couldn't be a plane engine in the first place. Oh, but then let's ask what was the point of the plane engine from the alter universe traveling back in time (by Donnie?) into the alteruniverse in the first place? Great film, but it...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

They are both science fiction, and conform to their own rules. In the world of Pi, a Ming Mecca Chip only has four transistors, if that's what they were. But who cares? The point was that it was a super chip - that's all you need to know about. You go into these movies looking for the...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

You know, if you are going to make a trashing of a movie like Pi, at least try to do a decent job of it.

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

My personal intrepetation of DD is that you have a kid who is totally detached from, and therefore rejects the concepts of life laid before him. The traditional conventions of morality and predestiny amazed Donnie, and while most saw him as strange, all he was really looking for was "the...

Todd, My points/questions are listed somewhere in this thread. I can't bother to chase them down, because I need no validation of my point of view (plus, I don't have the time to search). Feel free to look for them yourself though. I would wager that it's somewhere near pages 4,5,6.

PS: I'm with John Rice in that I think that he had to die. The problem of course is that the engine appearing out of nowhere (alternate world) happened before that event, which essentially takes away the significance of his death in saving the world. Cool movie though.

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

This film is best enjoyed if you can accept that the director may have gotten carried away with his own ideas. Riveting A joy to watch Better than 99% of stuff that came out in the last 2 years Greatly acted Greatly directed Just don't waste to much time trying to make sense of it. Well...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

I'd love to respect your 2000 posts but ...that's really sad . Even Kevin Costner isn't this bad! Can't I ask questions without you breathing flames down my neck?

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

Anyways, if anyone can clue me in on signs that there was a tangent universe, I'd greatly appreciate hearing it. I understand the time travel... the engine came from the future, Frank was helping Donnie understand how to control time and the teachers were guiding Donnie to his destiny to save...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

John, Bruce attempted an answer without acting like I need to belong to some elite club. That is why I ignored 99% of your post. Obviously the horn honk issue is disrupting your appreciation for the film. Sorry to bust your bubble, but I'd like to get other people's views on the film rather...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

Thanks Bruce, The only thing I don't get about that though is the director's comments about Donnie's success at the end. He says that real Frank was beeping his car horn to him, telling him to get out of bed, as if to say, "We did it!" If Donnie had a choice of dying, then I don't think that...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

Another question for the DD experts. Does Frank or anyone else in the film ever mention the concept of tangent universes, or anything other than time travel? I ask this, because the only events that began and concluded the anomolies was the plane engine falling from the future. The time...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

Correction - I have said that DD was illogical. I never said that I wasn't entertained. What is so bad about me questioning the fact that the director commented about the horn beep, when his comment his inconsistent with the film? Am I only allowed to say these things if I absolutely loved...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

Here's another question. If the Frank had been watching Donnie, and therefore the tangent universe always existed, then isn't the world always at risk of being destroyed?

Seth Ghost in the Shell is on the Elite Shelf in my DVD collection. Kay? That film is far more coherent than DD, despite the fact that it is far more complex.

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

John, I didn't say that discussing Dali was a waste of time. I said trying to explain Dali was a waste in time. Somethings just aren't meant to be understood, while others are so poorly put together that they can't be understood. Doesn't mean that they can't be appreciated. Heck, Darko...

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

Good grief people, you're acting like this film was some special gift from the Gods... Riveting? Yes. Good storytelling? Not if you have to watch the commentaries two and three times and still not get the film.

    Donnie Darko...a very strange movie

This was the most riveting and captivating movie that made no dang sense at all. I replayed some of the movie with the commentary, and the director was explaining things to my response, "how they hell was I supposed to get that?" Great direction, as far as drawing you in and increasing desire...
