    And you're correct. Plus it's little more than a mashup of 3 episodes from the series. I've felt the same since I saw it during its theatrical premier and still recall how disappointed I was in the film. I like it because it's Star Trek and that it spawned several superior films. However...

    With zero intention of upgrading to 4K I'm going to be content with the DC edition of TMP on BR and will pick up ST:IV on BR to get its DC (assuming it's included on the BR only release - the package blurb for that is missing). I already own the 10 movie set on BR and ST:TWOK DC edition on BR...

    I neither want nor need yet another "box of junk" edition of a movie just for a special cut. I'll either be happy with the "Director's Edition" or just wait for the inevitable release of all 3 versions, if not just a stand-alone of the extended TV edition, without the added "collectible junk."
