Why didn't Deakins win the Oscar? Because the ballots don't go out to Oscar voters as "Roger Deakins, Cinematographer, SKYFALL"--they go out as SKYFALL, LIFE OF PI, etc. I'm not sure having his estimable name on the ballot might have helped but the process is very depersonalized and favors the...
