JohnAD: I got to preview the first disc of Chrono Crusade at Animefest this past weekend, and it was great. Definitely one that's going to be worth collecting.
Well, as evidenced by John's list, a lot of shows started up in '03 and are finishing up (or are already finished) this year. He already mentioned Chobits, Haibane Renmei, and Last Exile, three great shows, and I'd add Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi to the list. As for series that have...
Haven't seen this reported here: Maison Ikkoku Box #4 will be out before the end of the year (November, I believe), but it will apparently only be sold through the Viz website and www.rightstuf.com.
My first recommendation would have been Martian Successor Nadesico, if it weren't about to be rereleased. This one has it all: great characters, a great story, and a LOT of comedy. For some reason, I am compelled to recommend Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. I know you found the first few...
I enjoyed "Chobits" and "Love Hina," and am currently enjoying "Marmalade Boy." Another series along these lines that I wholeheartedly recommend is "Maison Ikkoku."
July 6 is shaping up to be a pretty big day... -Ai Yori Aoshi: Enishi, Vol. 1 -Boys Over Flowers, Vol. 6 -Devil Lady, Complete Collection -Nadia Collection, Vol. 2 -Nuku Nuku TV, Vol. 4 And that's just the stuff I know for SURE I'm getting.
Alanna, if I were you I would go ahead and take the plunge on "Gals!" It's a great, hilarious show that is well worth your time and money. As for the brick potential, it should be noted that the six discs currently in release only represent half of the series, as there is a second season that as...
Here is some comforting news on that subject from Anime Next. Viz is reporting set 4 to be currently in production. (Set 3 marked the end of the previously English-dubbed episodes, so maybe the dub work is what's holding things up.)

I'm with John, go for "Kurumi." It's really too much fun to miss. Of course, "Nadia" looks interesting too, and it's quite a bargain... On second thought -- buy both of them, and tell yourself they were both half-price.

Good news from Viz for those of us who have been holding out on Inu Yasha -- the first season set is coming September 7, with a retail price of $99.99!
Some great choices there, John. I've really been getting a kick out of the wild and crazy "Abenobashi," and "Haibane-Renmei" is a really nice, laid-back show -- I've only seen the first disc so far, but it was a great change of pace from the frenetic activity in a lot of anime. I've been wanting...
Alanna, it's not so bad. Keep in mind, the Perfect Collection includes "Steel Angel Kurumi II," which has that nifty packaging that is definitely worth owning individual discs for.
Has anyone been able to find the Summer Special? I pre-ordered it through the store I work at and it still hasn't arrived, and Best Buy doesn't have it yet either.
I'm greatly looking forward to both of those -- as well as the first box set of Marmalade Boy, which is also coming that day. The 27th is shaping up to be a bit on the expensive side...
I'm with you. I have gone out on a limb on several series that I might otherwise have skipped because they were in nice, cheap bricks. So far I have Nadesico, Blue Seed, Dirty Pair Flash, Princess Nine, and Sorcerer Hunters, and I've got Burn Up Excess and Soul Hunter prebooked. I think I'm...
I hate to be the one to add insult to injury, especially when I'm in the same boat... but according to Animated Bliss, the Imperfect Collection will consist of the already released discs repackaged in a "high-quality chipboard art box."
Speak of the devil! "Excel Saga: The Imperfect Collection" comes out July 6. All six discs, in a box, for only $89.98!Woe is me for having bought them all individually...
Huh... that's true. I never would have thought about that. Of course, I tend to have a hard time not thinking of Godai as a sightly more respectable Ataru.
Alright, I've been wondering about this collection, because from what I've seen, it looked like seven discs. Am I correct to assume it's seven cases that hold 2 discs each? 6 discs for "J," 2 for "J Again," and 6 for "J to X"? While I'm asking, if I find one of the "Ultimate" sets, should I...
That's interesting, because I'm completely the opposite. I find the vast majority of opinions presented around here to be well-informed and valuable, and I usually take them into consideration when making anime-watching decisions. I know what I like, but I also know enough to know that there's a...
