    The Office season 5

The first two seasons were all about the slightly abnormal characters in real situations. It was after that that it became all about goofy jokes. I have to say, the last two episodes were the first time since midway through season 3 that I've really been excited about the show.

    The Office season 5

I've always felt that this show would be perfect for an ER/SNL-type situation, with a cast that weaves in and out after a few years. It could run indefinitely and dump characters that wore out their welcome (Meredith's drunk, we get it) and add in new ones to replace them.

Other than the Andy plot last week and the Angela plot tonight, this two-parter has been the best thing of the season for sure.

Steve, that's a very good theory. Subtle humor often creates a cult fanbase but rarely seems to deliver the ratings. Arrested Development is a prime example, and the fact that The Office's ratings have increased since the third season, where it began to turn into more of a caricature speaks...

    The Office season 5

The show has gradually gotten weaker over time (although this season is a slight improvement over season 4's "It's gettin' wacky!" approach) and yeah, last night was pretty bad for Office standards. The thing is, both plots had a lot of potential yet they just fell flat, especially the Hillary...

    The Office season 5

The Andy/Angela/Dwight stuff was kind of boring up until Dwight's revelation (although I must admit I sort of saw it coming). But I really liked all the surplus stuff. For some reason I can't get enough of Michael's complete obliviousness whenever his employees are nice to him.

    The Office season 5

That's my big complaint with the show nowadays. Except for a goofy subplot every three or four episodes, the only characters that get airtime are the ones involved in relationships with each other. The glory days of this show are long gone; the realism that made it so much fun for the first two...

    The Office season 5

I watch in SD too but as far as I can remember, all the episodes were shown in widescreen (ditto for Earl). But I do recall SNL was shown in pan-and-scan for an episode or two before returning to 16:9 in SD so perhaps NBC decided to go 4:3 at the beginning of the season for some reason and I...
