haha, now HK receivers "blow up"?? You just mentioned usability for the first time. Understandably, you must cast a wider net. I'll address the usability issue. I agree that HK receivers can be slightly less intuitive to use than other receivers. However, so can Denon. In the end, if you follow...
yeah, I tend to take Consumer Reports' stuff w/ a grain of salt, too, ever since I flipped through a few years ago and discovered the Bose Lifestyle system won their "best music system" award. What a joke. On top of that, there is also the fact that CR assesses tvs right out of the box with...
http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum..._Receivers.jpg http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...7-page-38.html see bottom of page for HK at 2007 CES. Again, distortions and inaccuracies are added to Arthur S's generalizations and vagaries...
Just to point out when John B. originally posted he was saying the Yamaha and Denon are a better alternative than Pioneer. Not that they are a better alternative than HK. Again, selective reading..
with all due respect you need to reed our posts regarding MSRP. Have you read the AVSForum threads on MSRP? You should go read them and get back to me. Thanks for contributing to this thread... Understand this: the 745 just came out and it is already at the low low price. It didn't take a year...
Like I said before, MSRP is basically arbitrary and typically chosen by the eggheads in the marketing department. Since HK is sold in a number of retail outlets, they can basically place it on "sale" at the lower price when it is really full price. Make sense? Basically to figure out which model...
I wasn't saying all receivers have issues, I was saying the above quote pretty much applies to all equipment.. As for HK, I stand by what I orginally said--if QC is important, just be sure to buy something with a warranty and not from a reseller. Then you have piece of mind Even if HK had...
Isn't this the case with all equipment? I also disagree about the beta testing statement. Sounds pretty vague and baseless to me. Bottom line is HK has a reputation for excellent receivers--they'll blow away most of them except for NAD and Outlaw. Lastly, with the 2 year warranty you don't...
you'd be in great shape with one of their AVR-135 or 235, which they have on ebay pretty regularly: http://cgi.ebay.com/Harman-Kardon-AV... QcmdZViewItem They have an MSRP of $449, although I've seen them go as low as $150. You might even get a 630 cheap...
like I said, for the money the HKs will outperform all of the receivers you mentioned. They'll also drive more challenging speakers without a problem. Therefore, I'd stick w/ an HK refurb receiver. I agree on the cables--get the 14 gauge from monoprice and even put on your own ends...
if location of purchase is no longer an issue then your best bet is a refurb from HK through their website or even better from the Harman store on ebay where they often go for much less than their website...
I don't think you'll find the Onkyo at BB.. Most of their stuff seems to me to be pretty overpriced, but since you have a $100 gift card, your best bet would be the Pioneer offerings, preferably on clearance--you may find the 816 or a 1015 being closed out. Other than these, I'd actually try...
