Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

Ha, me too! I think it's still the most expensive Blu-ray I've bought, just under $40 (I think) plus p&p to England, but I'm so glad I did. I think the picture looks just great, done before Fox embraced the blue/cyan look.

Yeah, he gives her everything, & doesn't even get to put his hand up her jumper! And there's the ever lovely Jean Simmonds there (but at least he gets up to a bit of off-screen how's-your-father with the lovely Jean (I fell in love with her when I was 11, watching Spartacus).

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

Yeah, it was around $40 (plus p&p to the UK), the most I've ever paid for a Blu-ray, but I had to have it, & it does look stunning.

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

The fact that The Egyptian wasn't a big success probably explains why the film elements are in such a good condition. I think Fox had to do a LOT of work on The Robe to get it in the state it is now, but for some strange reason have never released the Blu-ray outside of America (& region locked...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

I dunno, but I'm sure I can remember reading that Fox did an HD transfer, & then (maybe not completely happy with it) had another go, & it was the latest version that TT released...& has that transfer been released anywhere else? I happily own the TT release, but am surprised that the TT...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

Well it's the most expensive Blu-ray I've ever bought, but I'm so glad I did (& I'm sure I could sell it at a good profit if I wanted to), l've loved it since I first saw it on TV in the early sixties (b/w 4x3 & mono then). I find it sort of unworldly & strange (the music really helps there) & I...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

I've had this for over a year & only just got around to watching it. It looks really good, I was taken by the colour design, it's all blues & golds, hardly are green to speak of & not much rich red, when it does appear it seems to denote power. The Pharaoh wears a red band, & then Victure Mature...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

It looks like the next Twilight Time Fox Blu-ray is, The Roots Of Heaven (1958) on Jan. 17th. The Scandinavia Egyptian BD release proves that some of these titles will be released outside the US, & a lot cheaper (& better cover). EDIT. Oops, that's wrong. I didn't know Rapture was 20th Century Fox.

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

I think some sort of answer is for the studios to sell limited Blu-rays of older movies direct, but large companies are notoriously bad at selling small & making a profit. Mind you Warner do have a head start with the Archive set-up. I dunno, it might happen.

That sentance says it all! If the next one is a film I don't like, I might change sides, "what, forty dollars for that!".

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

For me the "bang" is the movie. But fine, if you don't want it you don't buy it, & if you do..you do. If you lived next door I'd lend it to you.

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

Just to repeat, the film's the thing. I don't buy blu-rays for the sake of buying Blu-rays, to fill up a Blu-ray shelf. I love movies (old movies!). I only have about 20 blu's with maybe another 10 I need to buy. Except for The Egyptian, all my BD's have cost me between £6 & £9 (I'm happy to...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

Agreed. It works out about £8 more than a bottle of Jack Daniels in the UK (JD is expensive over here, shame as it's my favorite tipple). I was looking through the excellent book, 2000 Movies Of The 1950's by Robin Cross. You get a still & brief plot description of each film (mostly American)...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

I think it will be a while selling out, no rush to buy (but as I stated, I'm glad I bought it). I'm wondering what happends next. The Egyptian is a real cult movie, all the more so as the DVD has never been released in the US before, but then what? Another 50's title will really struggle at that...

Blu-ray Review The Egyptian Blu-ray Review

Well I'd think it's hard work selling Blu-rays of old movies these days, so I'm all for great marketing, it works for soundtrack CD's. There's so few BD released that I want to buy (I love 50's & 60's), so if something I must have is released, I'll order it straight off. I'm so glad I bought...
