    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Good to have this one back. I enjoy its quirky sensibility and sunny Americana optimism. I think Sylvester's going to have problems not falling back into his old bad habits, even as Courtney learns a lot from him. I get why the others are suspicious of Cindy, given her track record, but...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Caught up with my backlog of episodes tonight so I could watch the season finale. Really enjoyed it. Even though this season definitely had fewer big action set pieces than the bigger budgeted first season, it still feels like the same show. I like that Courtney's even started to win some of the...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Yeah, there have definitely been a lot fewer fights this season on a CW budget, but it was nice to see that they could really bring it again when there was one this week. I've been unclear about this myself. Certainly her parents are at peak physical prowess, on par with the top tier of Olympic...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

There has definitely been less action this season, but otherwise the show has made the transition from DC Universe to The CW more or less intact. It helps that Atlanta is one of The CW's production hubs, so the production didn't have to relocate like "Supergirl" did. Lea Thompson directed the...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

John Wesley Shipp to guest-star on DC's Stargirl as Golden Age Flash He previously played the role on "The Flash". Pre-Crisis, the Jay Garrick Flash was from Earth-3. Post-Crisis, it appears that he has been incorporated into the backstory of "Stargirl". He will be featured in episode 2x09 as a...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

The season finale was the first time the limitations of the show's visual effects budget were really apparent. But given the ambition of what the show went for, I can forgive it. Some really great character work. They did a good job of wrapping up the season-long conflict while planting the...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Finally caught up before next week's finale. I've really enjoyed this season. My only concern is that with this show going to CW only next season, they won't have the budget they've had this season.

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

I just hope it doesn't take a huge nosedive in quality like "Supergirl" did when it moved from CBS to The CW. At least it shouldn't need to relocate like "Supergirl" did; it already films in Atlanta, which is one of The CW's major production centers. "Black Lightning" already shoots there, so...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

One of the main areas where I can tell that this show has a bigger budget than the Arrowverse shows is in the fight scenes. Not so much the choreography -- "Arrow" had excellent fight choreography, and "Batwoman" has inherited the excellent stunt team from "Arrow" -- but in the sophistication of...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Finally got a chance to watch Tuesday's episode. The thing I liked the most about it was that these were four kids playing dress up and, faced with a real threat, did about as well as could be expected from four kids playing dress up. Courtney, the only one with experience fighting...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Tonight's episode was a pretty sharp departure from the previous two, with one really horrible death and one really gruesome death. That being said, I liked that the episode ended on an upbeat note. Courtney has gotten a glimpse now of why Pat is so cautious, but she's forging ahead anyway.

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

I enjoyed episode two as well. It's nice to see a new hero suit up and actually prove to be competent without a lot of handholding. Luke Wilson is really good as Starman's old sidekick and Courtney's new stepfather. It's an interesting dynamic, because when they're in superhero mode Pat follows...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

Based on the names of some of Courtney's new classmates: Batwoman as a franchise is just a very different animal than Stargirl. It was never going to be an upbeat, optimistic show. I'm glad there's room for both types on TV.

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

They kind of had to make it a different Earth, because the Justice Society of America plays such a big role in Stargirl's backstory, and the main Arrowverse Earth already had a very different Justice Society of America decades earlier with many of the same heroes (including a different version...

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

The Jay Garrick Flash's winged helmet was on the ground in the aftermath of the massacre, so I'm guessing he at least was there.

    Stargirl (DC Universe/The CW)

I liked the pilot a lot; almost the anti-"Batwoman" with is fun, upbeat tone. It's nice to see a hero who enjoys being special rather than feels burdened by it. Reminded me a lot of Amblin family movies from the eighties.
