It's a nice idea. Unfortunately, it was Singer himself who made the decision to cut the big opening effects spectacle from the film after shooting it and then the completely inexplicable decision to cut out large chunks of the plot at the very last minute, to the point where everything doesn't...
It's not that it's an "origin story or nothing" attitude. The other provisions of the court ruling, while providing an incentive to put a new Superman movie into production by 2011 might also impose a greater incentive to just let the franchise lapse. This whole mess is the result of a...
From what I read in Variety, it looks like Warner Bros. is legally barred from making another Superman origin picture: Superman co-creator's family given rights Siegels now control character's Krypton origins By MARC GRASER
Warner Bros. and DC Comics have lost a little more control over the...
I completely forgot about that movie, probably because I had no interest in it, and you're absolutely right. The trailers were definitely bright and bold. I'd still prefer someone who doesn't already have a franchise with a flying man under their belt.
I'd suggest Timur Bekmambetov, but the...
It's also not the complete copyright to the character. The lawsuit which brought about the changed relied on a quirk in Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act, under the terms of which the copyright should have reverted to the estates of Superman's creators in 1999. D.C. Comics still owns the...
I loved Superman Returns (well, everything except the Lex Luthor stuff) but it did feel like the final film in a trilogy. There's plenty of places they could go with a sequel (especially if they kept the kid purely in Clark Kent's storyline and out of Superman's storyline), but the best thing...
To be fair, that's a pretty horrendous shot. That said, I'm still not entirely sure that it's not the digital double. They definitely used it in some shots they shouldn't have. The other problem is the contacts. They made his eyes look terribly artificial in a couple shots.
It's his physicality. He's got the body for Superman, but not the face. His features -- eyes, mouth, etc. -- are just too large to make a sufficiently manly Superman.
Warner Bros wants to alternate the releases of the Batman and Superman sequels so production wouldn't have started for a year anyway. Singer had the time to fill so he slotted that in with United Artists.
They could make it work. But you wouldn't be able to relate to Superman. Because in order to reconcile the two, the movie must be kept on the level of Batman Begins. When Superman blasts into the heavens, the camera can't follow him into the sky. It has to watch him become a dot from the ground...
I think it's just because Routh is still honest and far less media savvy than most other actors. Most actors will bullshit a lot of spin, but Routh seems to care as much about answering the question honestly as he does making the film look good. Considering that all of Singer's films evolve...
Here's sort of what I'd like to see out of a sequel's opening: Clark Kent's chasing down a story on the streets of metropolis. We are introduced to a storyline for CLARK that will carry through the movie. As he's going down the street, he sees a robbery in progress or some other more human...
I watched Superman Returns again, this time on DVD. The thing that stuck out at me was that the scenes that drag are the ones that only involve Lex. Lois is a complicated character, sometimes rather unlikeable, but she's always interesting because she ties in directly with our hero. To some...
Reeve is the classic Superman. He's manlier, he broader-shouldered, he really puts the MAN in Superman. A much more iconic portrayal than Routh's. That said, Routh was the right man to play the Superman that was required of him. He could project the necessary authority when required (the...
Agreed. Routh never looks like Superman in ANY of the stills. He looks like a guy in a Superman suit. On screen, it just plain works, and I never question him for a moment. Reeve always looked like Superman in the suit, both in the films and in the stills.
Damn, I was going to suggest "Man of Steel" when I read the greenlight, but forgot. Especially if both franchises are pointed toward the team-up movie, it'd make sense to have the titles complement. Batman Begins Superman Returns
The Dark Knight The Man of Steel
????? ?????
Batman...
