Well, I am happy to report that after complaining to Amazon.ca about their cancellation of my Ai Yori Aoshi box (they basically switched the SKUs between the box and non-box versions, which resulted in the box I ordered costing $7 more if I had to reorder), they reinstated the correct item at...
Those bastards at Amazon.ca did a bait and switch on my Ai Yori Aoshi box. They originally had two listings, less than a buck apart, with one listed as with collector's box, which I ordered. Now they say the box version I ordered is no longer available (it's now the non box set), but I can...
Let's see how my insane list looks (so far):
GTO (waiting til the rest are out to buy the rest)
Kare Kano (waiting on box set)
Mahoromatic (1 of 3 - have to get now for limited goodies)
Chobits/box
Noir/Box
Ai Yori Aoshi/box
Cosmo Warrior Zero
All the Miyazakis
Mospeada...
I think Mahoromatic is only three discs. I watched another episode of Magical Project S last night, and man, do I love that series. It is hilarious! Quite the bargain for the whole series on two, two-disc volumes. Sub only though for those who care.
I haven't seen a lot of it, but I'm definitely hip to old school, at least that which I've seen so far. It'll be another couple of months before we get any more Urusei Yatsura - good for the wallet, but... I just wish someone would release all the Matsumoto stuff we're missing: Galaxy Express...
Hey Chris, quit hogging all the Mahoromatic! ;)
Hellsing #4/figure just arrived, and I actually managed to get the holographic cards in Vandread SS #3 the first time out - now I'm just waiting for someone to rain on my parade by announcing they got a pencil board with theirs like SS #2...
A&B is way behind in getting stuff up on the website, probably due to the distributor, who is notoriously late with everything. Still no sign of Hellsing 4 or HMM, Nanako, etc. If I had some coupons, I'd probably just order from Amazon.ca, as their preorder pricing isn't bad.
I agree the pricing is good, but after missing the preorder for H&HC, I'm better off trying to get the box set at a major discount when it is still preorder. With a series that good, I'll dread waiting for new volumes anyway, so having them all handy is better....
Jason; Thanks for the heads up, but I already own the series (reviewed it for dOc). That's a great price for a really good series. FS seems to be carrying the individual discs in store now, but they still don't have the majority of ADV's line yet, which I hope changes soon. I have been...
Rightstuf's shipping is way too expensive to Canada, and their first order policy is a pain as well for out of US customers. I see Digitaleyes has it, but I may end up getting it locally. Hand Maid May is a great series, if a little heavy on the fanservice. I do wish someone had a pic of the...
Thanks for the warning on .hack, I don't know where I'll be able to see any eps without plunking down cash though. Has anyone found the Hand Maid May box/figure listed at Amazon? With a release date only weeks away, I'm surprised it hasn't come up yet. Amazon.ca has the box/CD set up, but...
Anime on DVD now has the listings for the rest of the .hack//SIGN limited edition discs, each with a soundtrack CD. Is this series any good? While I am a box slut, the $70 entrance fee for disc one is pretty steep, especially if I don't like the series. Where are all those Amazon coupons...
Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospaeda are pretty much a given. Inu Yashu gets a pass due to the episode count. I'm still not sold on RahXephon or Chobits yet. The RahXephon box does look pretty cool, though I'm not keen on shirts in general. It does look to be a pretty expensive year...
So what is everyone looking at for this year? So far I have Noir, and Ai Yori Aoshi boxes ordered, and will be getting the Nanako set (for the box) plus the Hand Maid May figure/box. Looking at Mahoromatic, maybe Chobits, maybe Sugar and I don't know what else. I'll have to look through all of...
I agree with Rob about the look of the animation, which varies in style and design from series to series. If the show is any good, none of those factors matter, since I get caught up in the characters and the story.
If you want really smooth animation, you will be limiting yourself to the high budget feature films, such as Princess Mononoke. You might like Escaflowne: The Movie, or perhaps Ah! My Goddess (though this is much better if you've seen the OVAs). One TV series that also may be of interest...
Choosing between Excel Saga and Strawberry Eggs isn't that tough. For value, get Excel Saga: more eps and extras per disc - ADV out did themselves on this series. Excel is simply insane, way over the top, hyper fun. Worth it for the ED alone. Ar, ar...ar, ar, ar... :)
Strawberry Eggs is a...
Yes, I am currently watching a host of series: FY, Gundam Wing, GTO, Sailor Moon, Dai-Guard, Strawberry Eggs, Excel Saga, Vampire Princess Miyu (soon), Macross (still), Eva (soon), Hellsing, Love Hina Xmas, Pretty Sammy... :)
No shortage of things to watch, but deciding which comes first is...
I forgot Vampire Princess Miyu, which is also arriving today. Got the six disc/soundtrack TV box set for $65CAN, which I couldn't pass up. Watched the second GTO disc last night, and that series rocks. Looks like a long wait to complete it though.
Fushigi Yugi is great. I'm just about done the Suzaku box and have the Seiryu box arriving tomorrow.
Has anyone seen the ltd. edition 1:1 scale Hellsing pistols in person? I'd love to get these, but a) they seem to be only sold with bootleg discs, and b) they won't let them in my country...
