Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

This is the Avengers 5 thread. I'm bumping it with Deadline's news about Shawn Levy being offered the directing job. We started discussing this in the Secret Wars thread. But it sounds like to me that Levy is in negotiations for the fifth film...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

We've talked a lot about Marvel's struggles in the past couple years higher volume of content, subpar material, worse response and lower grosses. I think it is clear that they are really at a low point right now. I also think reports of their imminent demise are greatly exaggerated. Marvel...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Well, this just seems stupid at this point. Hiring Waldron makes sense, but doing the movie doesn't. The audience at large rejected Quantumania and the Loki finale gave them the perfect out to get rid of the Kang storyline. I'm surprised they're not totally scrapping this.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

I don't think they will or should announce a new title for a while. The release date that is currently penciled in is May 2026. They have time to reassess what they're doing and should use it.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Majors' trial begins November 29. I'm sure Disney is going to be very interested in its outcome. But, as I've said before in other threads, they can just do a "shut up and don't think about it" recasting of Kang if they want to continue the storyline without Majors. The bigger problem is that...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

That is interesting. I heard again earlier this week that Jeff Loveness is no longer writing Kang Dynasty either. I hadn't really bought it before because of the strike, but now Marvel can talk to their writers again. Of course, neither Marvel nor the trades have actually confirmed the...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Sure. You're right; that is absolutely possible. Nic Pizzolatto was brought on recently to write Blade. We don't know when that deal was made either, but it was reported a little bit before the strike. What gives me pause is that firing Jeff Loveness (if true) would be a big story...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

With all due respect, I don't see that information as coming from a credible source. Also, I would be very skeptical of any writing-related announcements at the present time because the WGA is on strike. This obviously include Jeff Loveness. He, and all of the other writers under WGA...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Jeff Loveness is writing The Kang Dynasty. He also wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantmania, so it makes sense for him to follow Kang from that film to this one. https://deadline.com/2022/09/marvel-jeff-loveness-avengers-kang-dynasty-1235118412/ Director Destin Daniel Cretton has also written...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

I think you are correct. As part of the deal for No Way Home, Disney has one more "loan" of Spider-Man to use in the future. However, Tom Holland has also said that his contract is up after No Way Home. I think he will be back too, but it seems odd to guarantee Disney the use of the character...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Confirmed by who? And if that's true, it constitutes a pretty big spoiler until Disney officially announces it. Not even the Hollywood trades are reporting that right now.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Cretton isn't leaving for DC. When his return for Shang-Chi 2 was announced, he also signed an overall deal with Marvel Studios and the Onyx Collective, which is based at Disney and Hulu. Giving him a job as large as directing Avengers is just more evidence of how firmly ensconced in the MCU...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

We know that Cretton is doing Shang-Chi 2. Marvel announced that last year shortly after the first film was released. He is also working on American Born Chinese for Disney+. But I think this means that Avengers is probably going ahead of Shang-Chi. Shang-Chi 2 will probably be after Secret...

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 5, 2026)

Good for Cretton for getting this job. Anybody who has been reading my posts for any length of time knows I am a big fan of him. However, this would seem to indicate that Shang-Chi 2 is on the backburner. If he's going onto Kang Dynasty, the Shang-Chi standalone sequel probably won't happen...
