Yes....Mr Bongo has recently released a fine looking region 2 dvd of Chimes and is much superior to the Suevia Films dvd released a few years ago. In a region 1 there is no official dvd release of it that i know off.
To see Ambersons and Chimes at Midnight with the great visuals on blu-ray would be great and it's too bad Warner Bros released Ambersons on dvd only...did not understand the reason on that!
I did notice it too that the new version has darker blacks and in certain scenes you almost lose some detail but still a upgrade from the dvd. Now to get more Welles on blu-ray!
Me too...Customer Service was nice and friendly and will send back the old one tomorrow. By the way there was talk late last year another Welles movie "The Trial" would be released on blu-ray by Kino but so far nothing yet so i hope that will happen soon.
I did buy the TCM version and did compare it with the old Columbia dvd release and the TCM version was slightly sharper but not much of a difference between the two. I will wait untill i see some reviews of the upcoming one before i exchange it but they should have done this on it's first...
