In that same vein, I wonder how all the studios who turned it down are feeling right now. D'oh! After seeing it a second time, it is definitely my favorite theatrical version of the trilogy. Still like the Extended Fellowship better though. I'm pretty sure that the Extended Return of the King...

And I don't think it ever enters his mind that someone would want to destroy the Ring until Frodo actually claims it as his own and puts it on in Mount Doom. Up until that point he probably thinks Aragorn has it, as that is what he would do if he were in Aragorn's place. I don't recall exactly...

or a Grond... suppose the gift set will include a "special" edition of that new National Geographic Behind The Movie DVD?

That may be, but it still looked silly, not frightening or disgusting. The orcs in general looked very good to my eyes, which is probably why I fixated on the Orc Captain...he's isn't up to the same level as the others, and he should be since he's front and center for the audience, not in the...

That makes sense, but I was more questioning his look. Really the only creature in the whole trilogy that I thought looked silly. I can't imagine that's what they were going for.

But why change it from the book? In the book, don't they force Sauron's hand to attack sooner when Aragorn reveals himself to Sauron in the Palantir? Doesn't Sauron attack out of fear of Isildur's Heir?

This could have been much more effectively conveyed (to me anyway) by showing the eye "flashing" in Frodo's mind the way it had done in the previous films. A few words to the effect of "his eye is almost on me" would have sufficed. I don't think its too hard to infer that a giant eyeball on top...

Just saw it last night, and I have to say right now I'd call it disappointing, but still very good. Some of the problems I had with it: Why include Pippin looking into the Palantir at all? Aragorn (for some reason) never looks into it and drops it like a hot potato when he touches it. It...
