OK, I found this recently. Not sure why I didnt think of it before. The LG BD630 Blu-ray player will play most video files thru a USB port. All the reviews rave about it. Ordered a new one from 1saleaday.com for 70$ (not refurb).
Instead of a splitter, try a switcher. 2 inputs one output. The switch will automatically pick which one or you can tell it by remote. I have used these, but the signal keeps dropping, so I gave up. It will drop for a few seconds than come back. Good luck.

Yes, I understand streaming from a video card is a no brainer, I do it with my TX-SR605. What I asked is if it can be done through the ethernet connection or wifi, and according to Onkyo....NO. None of their receivers support that function. My 605 just acts like a second monitor, with 5.1 audio too!
