Just an update: I went and bought an optical audio cable, and it is able to bring the audio from my smart tv features to my receiver. So everything works great now!

Okay, that could be just it. But Since the TV has an HDMI port specifically meant for an audio return channel I would assume that the audio from the tv can be sent out. Isn't that the purpose of an HDMI Audio Return Channel port? Either way, I'm gonna test a few things and see if I can get it...

Yeah it was bought from an authorized source. But it is now out of warranty. I'm going to pick up some totally new speaker wire tomorrow, just to make sure.

Not sure about wiring in the wall, and I have moved the speaker and it still has static. It has been doing this in my old apartment as well a the house I am in now, so yeah, it is very odd.
