What's an appropriate measurement, depth and width, for a storage closet (for lack of a better word) for a home theater? I'll be running all my components out of this space, I just want to make sure I'm not building it too small.
Here's a very, very rough draft of my home theater layout and a bullet point list of ideas that I'm considering, though are likely to be revised in one way or another as I go:
The room will be its own entity, not an open floor plan to the rest of the basement.
AV closet: a space for all the...
Sorry if this is a common question: we’re finally designing our basement layout and I’m having a hard time trying to find a useful program to aid in the design. There’s a ton of them!
We have a totally blank slate. Any recommendations?
I seem to recall a group of people who successfully created a third party program that mimics Nintendo’s online services for Wii systems. Google is failing me, though
Our home theater and game room are going to be in our currently unfinished basement. Since there's so much conduit and piping running along various parts of the ceiling, the guys I'm working with suggested using drop ceiling. That way, if something were to go wrong, we wouldn't have to tear a...
I'm interested in buying theater seating for a stadium-style set-up. I'm perfectly fine with considering used seating in order to keep the budget nice and low. I've perused eBay and craigslist for some ideas and I've actually found some options, but I'm sort of surprised how few used seats I've...
I've been lurking for a loooong time and I've finally got a basement large enough to make what I think could be a really cool home theater.
That being said, I've searched Google recently and I can't seem to find a straightforward answer. Who can I consult to help me lay out a floor plan that I...
Is it possible to run multiple Wii systems from the same WiFi connection? I'm wondering if I can use three TVs to play six-player Mariokart Wii by way of the friend match-up system in the game.
I've turned my attention from the living room to the basement. I'm working on turning the basement into a place where we can entertain easier. Eventually, I hope to put in a whole bunch of techie gadgets and home theater gear, but I'm down to studs and rafters for now. Which brings me to my...
I have three HDMI components and only two HDMI inputs. Is there such a thing as an HDMI switcher, and if so, do switchers exist that can be controlled via infrared remote?
My set-up might be a little out of the ordinary. Yesterday, we moved a few of the components taking up space in the living room to the coat closet that shares a wall the TV is mounted on. Cables are hidden in the walls, and I'm very happy with how the project is working. I let the components...
What advice can you give to someone interested in putting together a home theater system? Pitfalls, tricks, tips you wish you would've known ahead of time?
I could use some help learning what to look for in a projector and screen. Aside from connections, jacks, and cables, I'm just about completely newb when it comes to lumens and lenses. If someone wouldn't mind breaking it down for me or pointing me to a buyer's guide, I would appreciate it!
I am converting a ceiling-hanging lamp holder into an outlet box. I'm using this receptacle cover to mount the outlet in the ceiling. Is the cover supposed to completely close the box, or do I just tighten it enough to be level with the drywall? I'm pretty sure I can just keep it level with...
I had this IR Receiver delivered to me today. Can I extend the length of the receiver cable with a headphone extension cable? Do I need a shielded cable to do it?
As I've mentioned in my previous posts, I'm looking to invest in an IR repeater system. A coat closet in my hallway shares a portion of the wall that my TV is mounted on. I'd like to eliminate my entertainment center and move the components onto a shelf in the coat closet. I've got two DataComm...
I'm thinking about replacing my 9 year old stereo with new audio components. My living room is small; I don't have the measurements offhand, but it easily fits a couch, two chairs, and a coffee table without giving a claustrophobic feel. I would eventually like to get rid of the entertainment...
I could swear I read that Logitech Harmony remotes have the ability to control lighting. What kind of devices would I need to take advantage of that? Thanks in advance!
Hi all. I'm in my first house and have always wanted a "home theater" type of set-up. Fortunately for me, I've got a basement with plenty of space and can't wait to start building (after taking care of a few other necessary renovations first). I haven't done a lot of research yet because I...
