A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

@Vincent_P: Well, Eastman's LPP was introduced only a year later, so it would have been reasonable to make an LPP answer print then and if they didn't, separation masters probably exist. But I must say from the pictures I've seen, I like the BD timing better than the DVD (with a few exeptions)...

A Few Words About While we wait for A few words about...™ Raiders of the Lost Ark -- in Blu-ray

First, let me show you something; here a framing comparison between a BD and an actual theatrical projection from 35mm film (keep in mind the BD is already cropped compared to the OCN): So, to simulate realistic theatrical conditions, you may need to crop considerably. But it wouldn't of...

Any news at all on Friends on bluray??

I'm hoping for a BD release of Friends or at least a DVD re-release with the new HD transfers encoded in anamorphic widescreen - I saw the first eight seasons in HD on Comedy Central HD and they looked brilliant compared to the current DVDs. From the very beginning, the series was shot on 35mm...

    Titanic (1997)

Let me just chip in with what I already wrote elsewhere: Now, I want to talk about the changes. A) As a purist I'm bothered by them on principle (similarly to how I'm bothered by the removal of the hole in the floor in Aliens Blu-Ray) but I can live with them, they don't ruin the movie or even...

Blu-ray Review Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray Review - Recommended

I haven't seen this transfer yet, so I can't judge how much the credits weave but my question is: do only the credits weave or the whole image? If it is only the credits, then it has absolutely nothing to do with the transfer. There are only two ways to stop optically composited credits from...

Blu-ray Review Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray Review - Recommended

If the gateweave is only visible on the credits, that proves nothing, since in 1993, it is quite likely that he credits were still done optically and every optical composite always has some amount of gate weave. And even if they were done digitally, in 1993, even a digital composite would likely...

Star Wars Easter Egg Discussion Thread

I was never able to discover any Easter eggs in the menu of any DVD but I always just went to the VIDEO_TS folder on my PC and played one file after another until I found them. Maybe you guys who have the Blu-Rays could do the same with them (there it would be the STREAM folder of course...).

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Well, the way I understand it, the German HDTV broadcasts, which seem to be the highest quality to date were 50fps 1080i, which means that it was basically 25fps where each frame was divided into two fields, so when captured, they could be re-encoded back into 25fps progressive. The compression...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

And the OT had at least four DVD releases recycling the same DVDs: 04 - the Special Special Edition Trilogy with a bonus disc, 05 the Special Special Edition Trilogy (same transfer and everything) without a bonus disc, 06 The Special Special Editions (same transfer and everything) separately...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

The downconversion was definitely not the culprit of the crushed blacks, as the 1080p broadcasts looked exactly the same in that aspect and so do all the new clips from the Blu-Rays. And I believe that people who have seen the Blu-Rays and say that they look "tremendous" may be the same people...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Tweaked picture doesn't necessarily mean better picture and from what I've seen so far, I'm not convinced it will be. And the crushed blacks and clipped whites will be there no matter what they do with it, because they're inherent to the 04 transfer. And apparently they're adding new sounds into...

Oh, right, I didn't see what kind of subs it had, as we streamed it from a computer and added localized subs in MPC.

Oh, right. I'm in EU. The Blu-Ray that my friend has is this one: http://www.amazon.fr/fabuleux-destin-dAm%C3%A9lie-Poulain-Blu-ray/dp/B001CRVXZG/ref=sr_1_3?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1311880116&sr=1-3 I assume that it's a completely different European release.

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

If they actually brightened the video the way the sample pics are brightened, then this is going to be even worse than the DVDs, because the fact that the blacks are crushed means that if they brighten it the way those pics are, the monotone black areas will become monotone grey areas.

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Well, OK, I agree, the only way that it is not a proof is that they weren't showing the Blu-Ray footage at comic con but to my understanding it was supposed to be promotion for the Blu-Ray set, so I just don't see why they would use an old transfer if they had a new one.

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

From the guy's comments it is clear that the comic con video is supposed to show off the Blu-Ray and the glitch, which is definitely inherent to the 2004 version and wouldn't be in any other transfer is quite clearly there. How is that ridiculous?

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Finally, a clear and indisputable proof that the 2004 masters are being used for the Blu-Ray. Someone posted a video of the STAR WARS Blu-Ray preview shown at the Fox booth at comic con and it is a video that shows snippets of the battle of Yavin: Now, the quality of the video isn't very good...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Erm... I don't see what's wrong with those two Luke quotes. Sure, it would probably be more realistic for him to say: Who's that? She hot!!! but then, it's not a teen-comedy and I don't see absolutely anything wrong with the "Tosche Station" line other than it forever being made ridiculous by...

    Blu-ray Review Amélie Blu-Ray Review

What was supposedly disastrous about the French release? My friend's got it and we watched it quite recently and it looked like a perfect transfer. I'm not much of a sound guy and didn't notice what kind of bonus material there was but the VQ looked great.

Well, it does say 4:3 letter box on the back of the covers actually but if memory serves, they only issued the statement after the information leaked online.

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Well, the thing is, they did allow the long shots and people at other forums are already judging from those. Keeping stuff like this secret is only good for the marketing if there's something unpleasant to hide. If they made a great new transfer, what point would it make to not tell people? And...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Well, it sounds like it was written by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about and it's quite suspicious, that LFL would only show it to a few people like that and wouldn't even allow them to take close pictures (in fear that someone who knows their sh*t might recognise it for what...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

See these Jurassic Park and LOTR EE boxed sets trailers, both of them are showing off the new HD transfers: It's like this: Most of the time when studios do make a brand new HD master, they usually just won't shut up about it in their campaign. It would make absolutely no marketing sense to...

    STAR WARS ON BLU-RAY - FALL 2011

Not true. There were very many of shots redone in the 2004 version. Countless VFX shots, which were left alone in the 97SE version, were recomposited in 04, many wipes were redone digitally, sky was changed in some Tatooine shots in SW, both shots of the sunset in SW were redone digitally, a...

Yeah, if I wanted to watch STAR WARS on a phone or an ipod, (which I probably wouldn't) I would just convert the 2006 BONUS DVDs, that's probably the only way they would look really good: on a 2 inch display :-D

TCFHE Press Release: Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Blu-ray)

Oh yeah? Episodes 1-3 as they are would simply not have been possible, but maybe if they didn't have the possibilities of making a CG spectacle and had to work with sets and practical effects, they would have to think longer about the story and these movies would be character centred and...

TCFHE Press Release: Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Blu-ray)

Actually even CGI was used, possibly for the first time ever. It was used to create the Death Star plans used in the rebel briefing before the end battle (edit: Ooops, I was too slow). But that's just for accuracy and I totally agree with you. In many respects, the original VFX are actually...
