I have just bought the LG BD690 Blu-Ray player (successor to the LGBD590). Unfortunately I didn't check what kind of audio outs it had. I have found that running digital coax out into my non-HDMI Denon AVR 4800 receiver doesn't sound nearly as good as the DD or DTS signal coming from my Denon...
Hi all,
I have a Denon AVR-4800 circa 2000 receiver. I've just bought a Panny HDTV and was going to run component to it. Connected two DVD players to the receiver (via DVD and VDP imputs) and then ran monitor out component to the new tv. I can't get the component set up to work. I have brand new...
Hello,
I'm buying new component, HDMI and other cables soon, and was curious what people thought about the differences in Monoprice cables. I'm not sure there is much besides the cable ends. Monoprice customers, what do you think?
Dan- I'm exploring what would I have to spend, and on what, to get an appreciable sonic difference. So, I'm not looking to stay within a budget per se. I did run the mains using an Onkyo Integra amp but it's probably not fair to compare that amp to the other lines I've mentioned. What...
Thanks for the info guys. The room's a 16x20 and the Diva Swans plus 2 of the older Hsu VTF-2 10" subs really fill the room. I have the subs handling everything below 80 hz. Dan, to answer your question, I think I'm more interested in increasing the sonic quality at this point. When I get an...
Hi all, I currently have an AVR-4800 Denon receiver. It's circa 2001 and is THX certified with 140 watts per channel x 5. I'm wondering: A- Do you have separates? B-Are they providing a better listening experience than a reciever you had? C- How much better? I ask because I'm thinking about...
I was just researching television reliability in the 2009 Consumer Reports Buying Guide and here is what it is reporting (for what it's worth): ------------------------- PLASMA TELEVISION SETS ------------------------- Should last 10 years or so with normal use. Few repair problems...
Well, aren't you the lucky boy Scott! Must have good friends getting you Amazon cards that add Oppo to your life. I'll try the Denon first when I get an HDTV and see how it's upscaling works out for me.
Very interesting points Bill. I suspect I'd be like you. I did get to see one of the new Samsung 50" screens in a friend's home and it was pretty amazing, but I'd likely not see a big difference among others. I think in the end many of these HDTVs would be perfectly fine.
Good info Scott, although myself I've never played SACD discs on my Denon 2910. I checked today and only have about 15 non-anamorphic dvds in my collection any more. So, for me it really is about getting the best picture from the standard dvd collection I have. I don't know about the rest of...
Michael, I'm not a video game player, so that's would not be an issue for me. But regarding image retention, can watching a lot of 4:3 material cause problems for a plasma? I wondered if the pillars on either side pose problems long term. Ronald has me reconsidering plasma again, which is why...
Boy, that helps so much! It seems there is so much confusion on this matter in general, but I am much clearer now. Sorry Joe, but questions beget more questions. 1- Is there a way to know if a particular set or line of HDTVs is better at processing signals into its native format? 2- Do you...
Michael, I'm sorry if I missed something you've already iterated, but are you saying to be that careful with plasmas only during that "break-in" period, or are they still subject to burn in after? For example, if one is doing a LOT of 4:3 viewing. I'm about to make the jump and buy an HDTV...
Joe, I'm looking for an HDTV for the first time. I've got a Denon 2910 that will upconvert SD to 720p via hdmi. Do both 720p hdtvs and 1080p hdtvs rescale? Is one process different than the other? Are plasmas and LCDs different in this respect?
I have two of the original HSU VRF-2 10" subs. They are quite amazing in their own right, but I don't have much real estate in the living room and wife says one has to go. So... was thinking I might upgrade to a 15. I'm thinking probably less spl output but would go lower anyway, as the Hsu subs...
I'm trying to decide if this is worth a triple dip. I don't remember the 40th track being that bad. I'll have to check it out again. Thanks for the thorough review!
Guys, I am so grateful for this thread. I spent many hours today trying to get some answers on this issue and only became more confused until now. I have a Denon dvd 2910 and an avr 4800 receiver and am getting ready to buy an HDTV. However, mostly what I'll watch on the new set will be...
