Does anyone know if the German blu-ray of Die Liebe der Jeanne Ney has English subtitles of the German intertitles? I apologize if this has been discussed earlier. Thank you.
Just a thought about THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN—Wouldn't the movie have made a great three-panel Cinerama film? It has all of the trappings of the 50s Cinerama travelogues: great scenery, musical moments, a brakeless truck running amok with one of the stars in peril, and a simple story...
I pre-ordered it. Being the ancient editor of the ancient Japanese Fantasy Film Journal fanzine, I have to support better image and audio releases of the fantastic work of Ishiro Honda and Eiji Tsuburaya.
The movie is out on DVD-R through Warner Archive in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. I read that the film had also been filmed using the Real LIfe 70mm process, but was never shown in that 2.13:1 format. Does anyone know if that version has survived?
I'd still hold onto it if you appreciated all of the great extras on the set. The new Blu-ray has no extras. I'll be keeping my laserdisc set if only for the 16mm documentary on the Disney team's trip to South America by plane.
Now that AUNTIE MAME has been released, fulfilling one of my three WB titles from the 50s I'd like to see on BD, how about Billy Wilder's THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS (with a wonderful Franz Waxman score) and John Ford/Mervyn Leroy's MR. ROBERTS (starring Jack Lemmon, James Cagney, Henry Fonda and...
Crazy idea: Due to MAME's long running time (2.75 hours), and given the period in which the film was released, did MAME ever receive a roadshow presentation (with extra music and/or intermission) or was such an idea even considered by Warner's? Just thinking.
Okay, so I'm the only person who actually enjoys this film and would love to see it issued on Blu-ray. Won't some company (whoever owns it?) make me a happy lad! :) {Grasping at straws, I know.}
Any hope for a BD release of the roadshow version of René Clément's 1966 film, IS PARIS BURNING?, which I believe Paramount distributed? (It seems unusual for two question marks to appear in a sentence?)
Forgive me for being non-tech: Clicked on your link which took me to Amazon. Is there a page indicating Kino sale titles? Or do I just search the titles you listed in your post at the Amazon site? Thank you.
IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS in its original OAR on Blu. And I'd also like to see ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD on Blu, with Legrand's score in stereo. Woo woo. Only recently learned that RETURN TO OZ was available through the Club, as I'm not a member.
Here's my two cents for Blu-rays:
AUNTIE MAME (Rosalind Russell)
SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS
MISTER ROBERTS
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS
And my two cents for DVDs:
more silents and early talkies
Thanks for all that you do.
Does any HTF member know of a good quality DVD release of this film? I really enjoy the interplay/banter between the members of Boyer's gang as well as the conniving Gene Lockhart who goes to any length to be on the winning side by doing favors for both the gang and the police. I also have a...
To my knowledge, the December 8, 1954, episode of "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" TV show featuring the documentary about the making of the film, OPERATION UNDERSEA, was included on Disney's Exclusive Archive Collection laserdisc box set, but has yet to appear on DVD or BD. Here's...
Jim Carrey? My first encounter with his comedic skills was in a movie that included his famous “talking butt” shtick. Thus ended any further video contact with the actor(?).
I really would like to see both MR. ROBERTS (2.55:1) and SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS (2.35:1; and a wonderful Franz Waxman score) get a blu-ray release. [As an aside, I would also like to see a BD of INHERIT THE WIND, which I believe is owned by Universal.]
I attended a showing of THE BEST OF CINERAMA way back when (1962 per IMDB) at the wondrous (demolished to create a parking lot) Paramount Theater in Toledo, Ohio. The film consisted of clips and audio from all of the Cinerama movies which featured Lowell Thomas as narrator. Does the picture and...
My BDs of THIEF OF BAGDAD and THE BLACK PIRATE have the stutter Jeff Nelson describes in his original post. It's annoying.
I think Mr. Harris explained it in his comments on THE THIEF OF BAGDAD:

The Blu-ray does not include the fim's exit/walk-out music which was included on the laserdisc release. Of course, the previous DVD issues didn't either. Oh, well. Someday?

Mr. Furmanek, I'm illiterate regarding current digital 3D home video technology (with apologies to those who are not), so I thought I would offer a question pertaining to your future 3D releases. Will the titles be viewable only via 3D Blu-ray player/3D HD monitor? I had hoped to be able to...
