Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm – in Blu-ray

A+ for that post. Miss Hunt had already creeped me out as Miss Havisham in Lean's GREAT EXPECTATIONS, so her appearance in GRIMM had me sitting erect in my loge seat at the Rialto when she showed up as the storyteller in the cabin.

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm – in Blu-ray

Sorry my tongue-in-cheek sarcasm may have been a tad too subtle. I was sure most would pickup on my mocking tone toward Crowther's mistaken credit given to George Pal for THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER, a film he had zero involvement with.

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm – in Blu-ray

BC was often able to include little gems about the movies in his reviews that would escape the average film-goer. It was almost universally assumed that Charles Schneer produced "Gulliver," but Mr. Crowther was able to blow past general knowledge to reveal the real history behind the flickers...

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) (Blu-ray)

I like both renderings, but I would accept the discs in a brown paper bag at this point. TWWotBG may not be anyone's favorite movie of all time, but I have loved it since seeing its original run in 3-strip at the Rialto in Louisville. Being able to project it at home in Smilebox is a...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

The film wasn't too young for you; you were at exactly the wrong age to best enjoy it. I liked it fine as a preteen, and so did my parents who were in their 40s. WWWotBG is charming, clever, and eye-popping. I have seen it many times since maturing, and I only appreciate it more. Yes, it is...

That was a National Lampoon issue. Even many of the ads for stereo equipment were in anaglyph 3-D. I have my original copy.

Kino-Lorber Insider Announcement Thread (Read Guidelines Post #3)

Benny Hill was the most successful British comedian to bring vaudeville/burlesque routines to TV. He made little attempt to sanitize his comedy because he knew his audience. My wife shared your view of Mr. Hill's series, but she was not the intended audience. I, OTOH, found his show uproarious...

The Hallelujah Trail coming from Olive Films on 2/27/18

Understood, and I poorly worded my comparison/contrast. I know that Olive claimed that they were using the best source made available to them, but I really believe they should have passed and let the title go unreleased. What happened was that it gave the company a bad name to many, and now we...

The Hallelujah Trail coming from Olive Films on 2/27/18

Well, I think Olive owes everyone a free Blu-ray disc featuring this new transfer. Who would have thought that streaming a wide-format film could blow away a physical disc copy? And I still like the film, warts and all. I just hate my BD that is serving as a placeholder awaiting a watchable...

My 2 cents worth on “Brothers Grimm”

Secrets are nigh impossible to keep in the Internet age, especially when apparently so many individuals are making their own contributions to the project. I hope that Dave, while probably disappointed, still realizes that this little slip has brought some of us a ray of sunshine in a...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Death on the Nile -- in Blu-ray

I recognize every actor in that poster since I watch plenty of Brit TV. How many Americans would have considered GOSFORD PARK's roster an all-star cast when it was first released? That doesn't mean I'm expecting a great film, considering Branagh's take on ORIENT EXPRESS, but I cannot fault the...

Bob Iger steps down as Disney CEO. Chapek takes over... but now Iger's back, baby!

It ain't your father's Disney anymore, that's for sure. I'll never return to the Florida parks again now that everything is being Marvelized, especially at EPCOT. Lucasfilm and Marvel products have their place in the new Disney pantheon, but not ahead of properties that were imagined by Walt...

The Official Disney Movie Club Blu-ray Exclusives Thread

You are making an assumption. Disney is among the many very large corporations that have at times done business in a nonsensical way and lost money because of it. Being huge can sometimes be its own disadvantage when it comes to logical thought.

    Woody Woodpecker Bluray

Only two of the four Avery Universal cartoons are Chilly Willy titles. The other two are one-shots, but they are indeed hilarious. The end of SH-H-H-H-H-H used to scare me when I was a kid.

    3D Top 30 Must Own 3D Blu-Ray Releases

I would say that its use in T.S. SPIVET is almost crucial to making the point. It was excised in the U.S. theaters to achieve a PG rating, and it practically negates the point of conflict with the character who utters it. I do not ever use the word in conversation myself, and I'm finding its...

    3D Top 30 Must Own 3D Blu-Ray Releases

This remains one of my favorite animated 3-D Blu-rays. It was definitely designed with 3-D in mind, but the story itself is one of the strongest of the non-Pixar Disney animated titles.
