Sounds good, but my home theater is used 95% of the time for watching recorded HD movies and TV/sports shows off Dish Net. Not much room there for such high minded ideals.
I appreciate what your saying but the way a film is "supposed" to look is totally irrelevant to me. I will always reserve final judgement based on my own perception of what constitutes a "good" picture. For me a good picture is nothing more than a picture (scene) that approximates as close as...
O.K. Just using a snapshop impression of both pictures, I much prefer the "processed" image. To me it just seems to have more SNAP. I hate the 'gritty' look of the unprocessed image.
My read of the article is simply that hi-end stores expect to sell more hi-end equipment than low-end equipment in the next few months. More important is the question; will low-end equipment stores (Walmart/Target) sell more hi-end equipment than low-end equipment in the next few months? I...
I think this is a stupid way to conduct business. I think you got to go "old school," i.e. to make money you got to spend money.... Just look at the huge gobs of money that other forms of entertainment are currently spending to stay in the public limelight. I see more commercials/newspaper ads...
I read your statement to my wife (she does the weekly shopping) and her comment was, "what planet does he live on." I have to spend several minutes calming my wife down after each trip to Walmart for the groceries and listening to how much this has gone up or how that has nearly doubled in...
Excellent post and you make valid points from the casual CE consumer's point of view and I totally agree with you. COST and not perceived presentation superiority is going to determine Blu-ray's eventual success beyond being just a niche product which is where it stands right now. Another...

Interesting you should say that because I have the exact opposite opinion. Now I have Dish Network and I'm pleased as punch with the quality of the HD channels that I subscribe to. In fact, just recently, I decided to spend money I was saving for a Blu-ray player and decided to buy an...
I sure hope your right. As it stands now and strickly speaking as an HD movie fan, I think the subscribers lost on this go round. Sure, we gained MGM but lost the VOOM channels Monster and FilmFest. Not a good exhange IMO.
Point taken. I do vividly remember the 70mm theater presentations of films such as, FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE, 2001, IT'S A MAD, MAD...WORLD, and others. Now THAT was going to the movies. :)
Your missing my point. I would rather watch the chariot racing scene in Ben Hur (before I die) on BR disc than Lost which episodes I've already seen on ABC HD. Give me movies!!!
Just to be fair, I saw Butch... in the movie theaters many a time when it was released and I have a tough time remembering anything beyond just the story. It would be pretty hard for a reviewer or anyone else for that matter to remember enough details of the presentation to make a fair...
I personally think BR should spend all it's energy on movie releases exclusively and leave TV shows to SDVD for the moment. Movies greatly benefit from PQ/AQ much more so than TV shows and Lord knows we could use a lot more title selection in the coming years.
The explanation is not readily apparent to me and I would hazard a guess that it's not apparent to 99% of CE consumers outside this forum. I must confess I don't know much about "DNR" nor do I want to know and I see nothing wrong with remaining blissfully ignorant of the subject. Like, perhaps...
"Whistling in the wind" is an apt description of any hue and cry campaign to promote better PQ when viewers can not even come to a universal agreement on the merits/demerits of one particular title. Since everyone's HD set-up is different and, not even mentioning visual issues, I think the best...
Naaaaa. I don't buy into that, but feel free to make those economic sacrifices because I won't. It's not the early adopters that determine if a format is a success or a failure. Ultimately it's consumers like me that are not on a crusade and simply BUY because it is our pleasure and the price...
Sales have dropped and as well they should. Most hi-end CE enthusiasts would have to be an idiot to BUY at this stage of the game. Recent history has shown how badly you can get "burned" by paying close to retail prices for hardware/software items when all you need to do is exercise a little...
Yooooo, Bo, Since Blu-ray currently fields only about 500 titles, how long do YOU think it will take for someone to manufacture a 400 Blu-ray jukebox player?;)
For me it IS player cost. Why should I buy a player now when come X-mas time I could save myself hundreds of dollars and get a better player as well. Till than other HD sources will do just fine.
Just saw this on satellite in HD and barely got through it. Nancy Travis is gorgeous and a scene stealer too boot. Myers next to her looked like an impotent school boy. C'mon Sony, how bout some Jesse Stone titles.
Fox does seem to have a take it or leave it arrogant attitude toward HDM consumers don't they. Like everyone else I'm wondering - WHY??? I e-mailed Bill Hunt over at the Digital Bits to try and get some answers.
Mr Scott, My laugh for the day. I find it hard to believe that in a forum such as this where people are encouraged to speak their minds that anyone would (or should) ignore you. You and your ideas are a presence that's, quite frankly, hard to ignore. To quote from a famous movie: " you...
I just saw this film at my local $1 movie theater. I'm glad I only invested $1 because I can't say one positive thing about this movie. I much preferred the C Heston version which I have on DVD. But I know this, I would not care to see this version again which is my own criteria for buying titles.
I have Dish and I'm very happy with the HD service in particular the HD-DVR equipment which came free with my start up package. I think with DirecTV you have to pay $200 for the HD-DVR(?) and I think their HD-DVR is in short supply(?) Clearly, research needs to be done before subscribing to...
