How will the disastrous economy affect the release of new catalog titles?

I also think that we'll need and turn to more movie escapism in these tough times, and if the studios want to take advantage of that and release more dvds, I'm all for it! Maybe rush releases with less money spent on restorations or bonus features, but I'm fine with that...The film is the...

    What's up with Warner DVD?

I'm not noticing a decrease in Warner's releases, but I haven't really been counting...it just feels like I'm still buying a lot. Of course I want even more, and as always I agree with CinéKarine's taste in movies... I'd buy everything on her list, as well as (and I know these are covered by...

DVD Review HTF DVD REVIEW: Warner Home Video Classic Holiday DVD Collection, Vol. 2

I just love Holiday Affair (and I love the vintage poster art used for the dvd cover) so I had to buy it. I can't wait to see It Happened On 5th Avenue for the first time...if it's Capra-esque and stars Ann harding, I know I'll enjoy it! Marsha Hunt totally steals Blossoms In The Dust...this is...

RKO Lost & Found: DVD Releases After TCM Airings?

Hello! I thought I should resurrect this thread, although i was tempted to start a new one with no question mark at the end! I was just browsing TCM's schedule and noticed a couple of these RKO movies are airing again this morning...but this time they're listed in TCM's database as being...

    Walt Disney Treasures Wave 7 - 12/11/07

I'd love an Annette set.... Of course I'd love the Complete Mickey Mouse Club even more! I guess there isn't much chance of our seeing any releases beyond "Week One", now that segments like Spin & Marty have been extracted for DVD release... but I sure would like to see all the episodes with all...

Judy, Fred and Gene in CLASSIC MUSICALS FROM THE DREAM FACTORY V.2! July 24th, 2007!

:P I bought doubles of all the other MGM Musicals Warner's released too. :) I like having more than one copy of my favorite movies, partly as a back-up in case something happens to one of 'em, and partly to show my support for the release of MORE MUSICALS! :D I wanna help boost sales a little...

Judy, Fred and Gene in CLASSIC MUSICALS FROM THE DREAM FACTORY V.2! July 24th, 2007!

Yes I was kind of expecting a Fred Astaire Signature Collection too... since George Feltenstein said he wanted to release all the remaining Astaire films... I wonder if this means Ginger Rogers won't be getting a solo boxset either? (hope not, but it seems strange to give Ginger one and not...

RKO Lost & Found: DVD Releases After TCM Airings?

Me me me! :D I can't express how much I'm looking forward to seeing these films (starring many favorites of mine - William Powell, Ginger Rogers, Ann Harding, Irene Dunne, Lionel Barrymore), and it goes without saying I immediately yearned for a DVD release. :) I'm sure they'd sell too - using...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Errol Flynn Signature Collection - Volume 2

I don't really see a problem with including the early version of THE DAWN PATROL, as a bonus feature, even in an Errol Flynn Collection. I think Flynn fans might be curious to see a version of the story without Flynn - even if only to confirm to themselves how very essential he was in the role...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Errol Flynn Signature Collection - Volume 2

I'm with you in wanting THAT FORSYTHE WOMAN, Charles. :) Such a great cast! I'm a fan of all of them. And I'm always for showcasing actors' versatility in their Signature Collections. I wish the earlier version of THE DAWN PATROL had been included too... as the Oscar Winning/Nominated Films...

What Warner DVD sets would YOU like to see?

I'd like that Mickey Rooney boxset... and the double feature for "Of Human Bondage" would be wonderful. :) But can't we make room in that Literary Classics collection for So Big!, The Secret Garden and Anne Of Green Gables, as well? ;) Aw, let's face it...with the MARK TWAIN titles that Eric...

Speculation about films never released on home video from WB.

I agree with you, Corey... a no-frills DVD line would be much better than Amazon downloads. I really wouldn't mind buying movies that are in rough shape... better than never having them at all 'cause the studios don't think they're important/commercial enough to spend money restoring or creating...

Oscar Winning/Nominated Films Not On DVD

Impressive list ted:r! :) I remembered another one... WHITE BANNERS (1938) [WB] - nominated Best Actress: Fay Bainter (the same year she won Best Supporting Actress for "Jezebel") Add this to the never-released-on-home-video list as well. A shame, 'cause it's well-written, emotionally...

Speculation about films never released on home video from WB.

CinéKarine - "Princess O'Rourke" -- good one! Has that never been on home video?! I actually prefer it to "Roman Holiday" (which was inspired by "O'Rourke", I believe) I'm hoping for an Olivia de Havilland collection. :) Well...some I've wanted for a long time, others I've only recently...

    Fox Classic titles in June

I'm also sad to hear that about musicals not selling :frowning: (I wonder if the other studios feel the same way?) Didn't musicals sell well on VHS, and don't all the people who bought musicals on VHS want to upgrade? Not to mention those who weren't around or aware during the VHS days...

Speculation about films never released on home video from WB.

Ahem, I guess these wouldn't fit in with a movie called "Queen Of Outer Space" ;) But I don't really know if they need to fit in, and anyway... These are the films Warner owns that I'm really hankering for, which (as far as I can tell from the IMDb) were never on home video - I'll be very...

What Warner DVD sets would YOU like to see?

Thanks CinéKarine, but I doubt I'm that psychic. Although I was right about Cary Grant Vol. 2... ;) Man, i'll be really crushed now if "Tammy" isn't released for it's (and Debbie's) birthday! Good choices for a singer biopic box... especially "So This Is Love" and "The Great Caruso"...

Let's speculate about the rumored Universal boxed set of musicals

More Deanna Durbin! Yessssss! Shouldn't have taken so long since the last boxset though, and it shouldn't be something they're only "considering". Am I really naive or isn't she still remembered and beloved by many? Didn't her movies sell like hotcakes on VHS? I don't know about the first DVD...

What Warner DVD sets would YOU like to see?

It's TAMMY's 50th birthday this year? (AND Debbie Reynolds' 75th!) Oooh, I'll be very disappointed if they don't celebrate it! Would you believe I've never seen that movie? But everyone's heard of it and heard the song, right? :) I'd like to buy and finally see it. I can't believe it's not on...

What Warner DVD sets would YOU like to see?

Corey, I think you know I agree about Debbie Reynolds. ;) She's definitely still a recognizable name/face, so if Warner are worried about appealing to the younger generation...she should be a natural! And yes please ask her to do interviews/commentaries before it's too late! (Or include her TCM...

Oscar Winning/Nominated Films Not On DVD

Whoa...good job remembering so many! No point copying and pasting the whole thing, so I'll just say "yes! I'd buy it!" applies to almost every title you guys have listed. :) Aww, thanks. I have hope for "These Three" and "Wuthering Heights" now that other Goldwyn films like "Ball Of Fire"...

Oscar Winning/Nominated Films Not On DVD

Thought it might be a good idea to remind eachother (and the studios ;)) which movies are missing! Off the top of my head: MIN AND BILL - won Best Actress: Marie Dressler (MGM, now owned by WB) CAVALCADE - won Best Picture, Best Director: Frank Lloyd (FOX) THESE THREE - nominated Best...

What Warner DVD sets would YOU like to see?

Love the idea of a Lillian Gish Collection! I tried recording "La Boheme" from TCM the other day but had signal problems....my cable provider says it's not them, but others who get TCM don't seem to experience this loss of picture, so I don't know. In any case, Lillian's a legendary, amazing...

Let's speculate about the rumored Universal boxed set of musicals

Oh no...that's so sad about Betty Hutton. :frowning: I wish (as I often do when a classic star dies) more of her memories had been preserved in the form of interviews & audio commentaries... but even though it's too late for that, I wish for more of her films on DVD. I haven't seen many -...

You're too kind. Posting on forums in the middle of the night when you're hyper 'cause you haven't slept for 2 days... can be a dangerous thing. ;) Kinda like impulsively leaving embarrassing, long, rambling messages on someone's answering machine... I'll join in the cry for...AVA...

    Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007

Handy list. :) Thanks for gathering all that info, Corey. I do hope Warner aren't counting '70s films as part of the promised 200 classics! I guess it's up for debate, but to me "classic" refers to that golden age of Hollywood, pre-1960. I'll be flexible and go up to 1969 ;) But not beyond!

    Lucille Ball Collection from Warner

Corey - yes I was a little confused about "Best Foot Forward" at first, then I went back and re-read the press release. Warner's still keeping their promise about not putting already-released DVDs in a boxset. I'm glad that Amazon "Exclusives" will be available more widely - I felt bad for all...

Barbara Stanwyck Appreciation & DVD Requests

I'd like to see the remake of "So Big!" too, Charles, out of curiosity. But I can't imagine anyone beating Barbara Stanwyck in the role, even if the other version's longer and more fleshed out. It's all the more amazing that Barbara's performance was so powerful and had such depth, despite the...

    Lucille Ball Collection from Warner

I should've guessed when Lucille Ball was Star Of The Month on TCM a little while ago. :) They aired "Dance, Girl, Dance" and I really liked it...never thought I'd see it on DVD...cool! I already got "Best Foot Forward" from Amazon.com (I wonder if future "Amazon Exclusives" will really just be...
