I settled on the 40V2500 after much comparison. I'm very happy with the decision. I paid $1850 on sale at J&R.

I did the comparison a couple of months ago and I came up with the Sony 40V2500. I paid $1850 at J&R and they had the 46V series for $2300. YMMV

Open it up and blow the dust off of the HIV transformer and yoke with an air compressor. If that doesn't solve the problem, junk it.

She's your mom for goodness sake. Spring for a 46 XBR. You will end up with it anyway.
