I just received the following message from Amazon:
"Hello from Amazon.ca.
We're sorry to report the release of the following item has been cancelled:
"Outer Limits Season 1 [Blu-ray] [Import]"
Although we'd expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found it won't be released...
I just purchased the UK Season 7 as I have a region free player, however my computer indicates that, although it is PAL, it is region free. Hope this is of help to some of you.
I watched this last night on my Oppo BDP-93, latest firmware and the soundtrack miss-match is the worst I've seen. I can adjust it on my receiver of course, but why some people don't have a problem is a mystery.
The Region 2 PAL Disney DVD is 1:85 widescreen and miles and has quite good picture quality. The Region 1 is atrocious. I have seen both and there is no comparison.
You had me worried but I just tried it for the first time and it works fine on the Oppo BDP-93 I have, so it may not be an Oppo problem unless of course you have a different model.
I don't have the original release for comparison but for what it's worth the picture appears sharper and has a lot more grain than that shown on the captures on DVDBeaver.
No offense taken and it's all a bit humorous after fact.. What's not so fumy is that there was no replacement program offered by TCM. Movies Unlimited only got this in very recently which makes it seem there was a delay (by TCM?) until the updated version was available.
I recall some time ago...
No problem. I was just as surprised when I received this expecting the old version. I don't have the facility to do screen captures but I'll take some photos when I have time tomorrow morning and post them.
What a bunch of doubting Thomases when all I'm trying to do is to provide updated information on this release. I have better things to do than creating a phony cover scan for what reason I can only imagine.
The files on the Blu-ray are all dated April 4th, well after the initial release date. If...
Finally received this today from Movies Unlimited after having it on pre-order for months. The packaging has now been changed to Blu-ray, Also, there is about a 20 minute feature by Eddie Muller, don't know if that was there before or not.
p.s.
Just noticed also that the audio is now Dolby...
I purchased mine from Movie Unlimited a week ago, and have noticed no issues (apart from the wrong gallery on one disk), having watched 4 of the 5 movies on a 55" TV.
I'm still waiting for Amazon Canada to get their supply. Every major Canadian retailer has had it since Dec.21st, so I don't know what their problem is. I've got a good pre-order price, otherwise I'd cancel.
re: Out of the Fog
I received this today and noticed it is only 85 minutes long, the correct length being 92 minutes according to various sources, including the WB Archive web site. Does everyone owning this have the same shortened copy, or did just I receive a bad copy?
Now I'll have to check...
I have purchased a number of VCI DVD's and while they are nothing remarkable, most are certainly watchable. But Alpha? Any that I have seen look like faded out of focus copies of VHS tapes.
I ordered 6 Warner Archive DVD's and there were no shipping charges, so yes, at least to Canada. They have charged me shipping charges on previous orders, so this may possibly be a time limited sale.
For those of us outside the US, Deep Discount has a sale on now - $14.98 for all
about 300 Warner Archive selections they stock. Furthermore shipping is free including
outside USA.
I notice that Two of a Kind, The Killer that Stalked New York, Night Editor and Women's Prison are listed in Michael F Keaney's Film Noir Guide. I would think at least these four should have some Noir overtones.
Doug -
You may want to take a look at Movies Unlimited. They appear to carry all or most of the
Archive releases on a delayed basis. $26.99 is quite high but they have had them on sale for $17.99
a couple of times and their shipping charges are reasonable.
