Any JBL experts here? I Need advice...

Hi guys, im currently using JBL northridge ND-310s (3 way double 10s) for fronts and I love them. Ive bought and sold alot of gear through the years but these have always been my favorite. Unfortunately they are simply not going to fit in our new built in entertainment center so i need to...

Building a new house, soon ready for drywall and need help

Hi guys, Im building a new house and want to wire everything properly before we put the drywall on and I have some questions. House will have a home theater system in the great room, master bedroom and possibly a dedicated home theater room in the basement down the road. 1. Should I go 5.1 or...

    Reconditioned H/K receivers on E-bay...

What do you guys think of these reconditioned recievers that Harman Audio are selling on e-bay? Think they are safe to buy? They say they may have some minor scratchs. Has anybody seen the condition of these for real? Also, has anybody figured out a way to get one in Canada? Harman Audio...

    JBL studio L ??

I'm a little dissapointed with them. I've been waiting a long time for the new studio series so I could get a set of slim floorstanding speakers like the dual 6's they have now. But now that they have the mains I want, I cant get a matching center? The center with compareble drivers is a wall...

Damping Material In Subs. Why Bother?

Just in case anyone was wondering... I tried stuffing my sub this weekend. Not a huge change but seems to sound a little nicer. Not much difference in the response or output level. It was worth doing I guess.

    Will this work?

I'm using a parts express 500w plate amp for the convienieance over a pro amp. But sometimes I like to tinker with things and I was thinking about installing some terminals in the back of my sub leading to the amp and woofer. Normally they would be jumped togeather, but if i wanted to try a...

Damping Material In Subs. Why Bother?

I think i'll try stuffing it then. Cant hurt anyway. So just to help my understanding... Can I expect more output in low frequencys with the same amount of power just like a larger box? Or does the stuffing simply drop the upper output to give you a similer response curve to a larger box?

Damping Material In Subs. Why Bother?

I was also thinking that stuffing a box will make it similer to a larger one (lower q). But do you really "gain" low end extension, or is it just the upper limit auttenated? For example if you had two identical subs (one stuffed and one not) running off the same amount of power, would the...

    Some more sub questions...

Can somebody else confirm this? I think the extra headroom would probably let me boost the low end enough to keep me happy. But like I said, I really dont EVER want to worry about this thing bottoming out.

    Some more sub questions...

Well as some of you guys may know I have a DIY sub with an Avalanche 15 with a PE 500w plate amp. I first had this sub in a 5.5cuft box ported to 19hz and it sounded ok but the low end was overpowering. And it really didnt seem to have alot of higher frequency bass output no matter how much...

    PE Sub Amp Auto Bypass

Mine was terrible too. Didnt come on till over 80 dB output. I added the resistor and now it works perfect. Comes on at such a low level I cant even detect it sometimes. If you add the resistor and its still not sensitive enough, you could always add a smaller one. I believe I used 750 ohms...

    Anybody here using an Avalanche?

Thomas, If you were to mount two similer drivers in a small and a large enclosure. And both were EQ'ed perfectly flat, would they both sound the same? Or will the smaller box be less accurate? Sorry for all the questions but i'm still fairly new to this. I'm glad to hear you guys think my...

JBL E80 or E90 - Is this it?

John, I expected a big difference in bass, and there was. But that's not what bothered me about them. The bass response was fine with a sub, they blended in even better then I had hoped. But there was a HUGE difference in the upper midrange and treble. Female voices just really sounded bad in...

JBL E80 or E90 - Is this it?

Cant go wrong with the E80/90's. I have the origional version of the E-100's and they sound amazing IMO. I tried upgrading to a set of JBL S-26's now that I have a sub but I had to come back, the clarity is just nowhere even close. I think personally id go with the E-80's and spend the extra...

    Anybody here using an Avalanche?

Does the box volume really make a big difference in SQ? My understanding is the biggest change is a shift in output. If I go smaller still is the curve going to level out at all? Or is it going to be similer but with reduced SQ? I did do a nearfield test actually. Here are the results of...

    Anybody here using an Avalanche?

I got my SPL Meter today and did some tests. The results seem to confirm what I was thinking. The output is down a little after 50 Hz. And the avalanche in a sealed box is MUCH closer to ported then software predicts. Chad told me this on the phone once and he was dead on. I guess the software...

    Anybody here using an Avalanche?

Good to see others seem to be happy with them. I'm pretty sure my SQ issues are the dustcap, it clicks faintly when i press on a certain part of the cone. I'll try running a bead of CA glue around it when i get the chance. I have a SPL meter on the way now too so I'll soon know if the...

    Anybody here using an Avalanche?

Just wondering if anybody else here purchased an avalance when they went on sale? Seemed to be alot of intrest when the sale started but not much feedback since. So what do you guys think of them? I have a 15 in a 5.5cuft box ported to 19 Hz and the really deep stuff is insane. Way better...

    Ground problem?

I guess i'll leave it "ungrounded". Can anybody explain why recievers are not grounded? Wouldnt this help the problem? Or would it only make things worse?

    Ground problem?

I'm using a PA amp on a DIY subwoofer and I am getting a ground hum in both the sub and speakers. The PA amp is grounded and the reciever is not which seems to be the problem. I tried the PA amp on an extension cord that eliminates the ground and it sounds fine, hum dissappears. Is it ok to...

These things are Big and Hungry!

I had a set of Cerwin Vega D9's a few years ago. They do get fairly loud off of a 100wpc reciever, but they are hands down completely different on a decent power amp. I ran mine off a 500wpc QSC amp. I never ever pushed them to 500w but I did run them hard at times with no problems. A power amp...

    damaged tweeter

One of my surrounds has a slighly dented tweeter. :frowning: It really drives me nuts to think about it too, but i cant hear a difference. If it was one of my fronts or my center channel id have it replaced for sure. It the dent is big enough to pop back out on a tweeter id just forget about...

    JBL questions

Well the tweeter I have is P/N 335476-001, its exactly what JBL lists in there parts website and it is defenatly not titanium or titanium laminate, its some sort of softer polymer. I e-mailed JBL about it and they basicly gave me the run around as if they didnt know themselves, saying whatever...

DorianBryant, The tweeters in my ND-310s are defenatly not Titainium laminate and they are defenatly origional. They are completely different then the tweeters in my N-24s and my studio models. I know this is hard to believe but trust me its true. They were purchased used but the origional owner...
