I just came across this thread. Robert, how often do you have chats with Warner? I would love to know of any info about HD releases of the The Matrix and Pan's Labyrinth. Thanks.
John, while I haven't read Ron's review I'll answer from experience. The audio options will vary from studio/HD-DVD title. Warner Bros. appears to prefer that the movie starts immediately. Universal appears to prefer to let the viewer decide what to do first which is the way you (and I) prefer...
Skip season 3 of RK. Admittedly I have not watched that season but that's because that season is not part of the original manga. In the manga the story arc following the "Kyoto arc" is the "Jinchu arc" which I understand is not what season 3 covered. I hope what I wrote wasn't considered a spoiler.
I've been renting Shura no Toki (finished volume 3 last night) and found it to be a fun series to watch. Animation isn't drop dead gorgeous but some of the fight scenes, although short, are exciting to watch IMO. The fighting is none of that stuff that last for 2-3 episodes. I recommend checking...
Has anyone with the R2 "Totoro" compared this release? I'm hoping to replace my R2 DVD with this one but only if it's using an improved video transfer and if it's using literal English subtitles. From the review it sounds like it's using the same video transfer. :frowning:
Anyone with the R2 "Totoro" gotten the R1 release yet? I would love to know if it is using a different video transfer (the R2 was horrible) and if it is using literal English subtitles.
What ChristopherDAC listed, but adding the rest of Studio Ghibli's films he did not list. Seeing "Tonari no Totoro" and "Majo no Takkyuubin" in 1080p would be a slice of heaven for me! :D
Allow me to add this to the list: The 1080p transfer must be anamorphic. A 2.35:1 source must use all 1080 lines and require the player/scaler or an anamorphic lens to perform a vertical squeeze or a horizontal stretch, respectively. That's far better than to have the source occupy only 817...
Finished watching the R2 release of Howl's Moving Castle. This is only the LFE track which was converted into a 16-bit WAV file. I imagine the results are as if the audio processor performed no bass management.
I'd love to post waterfall pics of my own findings but it would be great if I can get a hold of the Spectrum Lab color profile you guys are using, for consistency. Thanks.
I have the original two disc CE (not the re-release CE set) and the outtakes are on both the widescreen and fullframe credits on the first DVD and on the second DVD.
