    Warner Archive Discussion Thread (FEEDBACK)

Why do studios even bother paying for CSS on DVD these days? Fellas, the cat's out of the bag. Save your money. It's a good idea that should have been attempted years ago but the price is ridiculously high. Add shipping costs and I could be getting a Criterion.

    Brainstorm - new release

Are there any extras? I was hoping for a commentary by Mr. Trumbull.

This will be a DVD debut for Lisztomania too. Cool.

MST3K: The Movie - Universal release coming 5/8/08!

I'm psyched that its finally getting reissued and they're giving it a new transfer with 5.1 but they really should include those deleted scenes. The entire shelter sequence is a blast. There's a large and ever growing following for MST3K. Someone at Universal must have finally realized this. If...

Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse in November!

It's pretty shameful of Paramount to exclude the director of this documentary, Mr. Hickenlooper. To find out about this release from a website after he campaigned for years to get it out on DVD is a major insult. And to not even be asked for input into his creation for this DVD speaks volumes...

Stuart Gordon's FROM BEYOND (merged thread)

"..commentary by Gordon, Yuzna, Combs and Crampton" Alright! I love those guys. I can't wait either.

Stuart Gordon's FROM BEYOND (merged thread)

Um I hope its an oversight on the part of DavisDVD and a commentary with Gordon & Combs and possibly others will be included on From Beyond. They had mentioned recording one ages ago.

    Spider-Man 2.5 (yes, it's already planned!) (merged)

Wow, I thought that disappointing version shown on FX was going to be the same one included on this DVD. This is a real surprise and more of what I was expecting when an extended version was advertised last year. BTW, here's the link to that IGN review.

Bertolucci's 1900 discontinued - get your copies fast!

Funny, that site no longer even mentions it on their main page though they still carry that handy link to Amazon. Was it all just a dream Auntie Em?

    Lindsay Anderson's "If..."

No McDowell/Sherwin commentary? Jeez, after all these years and they're leaving that out? I wonder why. I hope to God they're not substituting some academic instead. I'd rather suffer through Mick's caning. That commentary was something I was dying to hear ever since the planned Paramount...

Even MORE brains! "The Return of the Living Dead" SE DVD coming?

A bit off topic but I was wondering, was there ever a definitive answer from Warners explaining the music change in RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 2? Was it solely due to music rights clearances or did they mistakenly grab the wrong track?

A deluxe version of Escape from L.A.?

Count me as another fan. I'm not holding my breath for one but I'd buy a special edition in a heartbeat. It's a fun movie that plays out like a deja-vu version of the first one but flavored with the phoniness of L.A. That shot-clock sequence rules and it has one of the best endings ever.

    Spider-Man 2.5 (yes, it's already planned!) (merged)

Anyone else watch this last night? Underwhelmed is how I'd describe it. Can't say I noticed all that much different added to this cut. A lame recap of the first movie tacked on to the beginning and some additional lines during Peter and MJ's conversation outside Aunt May's and a different...

    Spider-Man 2.5 (yes, it's already planned!) (merged)

Looking forward to seeing what extra footage is included. I wonder if we'll see more of the chocolate cake scene which created some confusion out there as to its purpose. I'd also like to see more Doctavious footage lamenting the death of his wife, something that seemed forgotten after that...

    The Paul Newman Collection

A question for those who have watched the Mackintosh Man DVD. A few years back when this ran on TCM, a scene was omitted, one that was included in the TNT version years earlier. After the car chase, during the pool scene, just after Newman swims away from Mrs. Smith reading the paper, does...

    Most desired Criterion release

Peter Greenaway! Criterion has yet to release any of his films which is a glaring omission for one of the most creative, ambitious directors of our time. DROWNING BY NUMBERS PROSPERO'S BOOKS BABY OF MACON THE TULSE LUPER TRILOGY I'll echo the request for Welles' CHIMES AT MIDNIGHT...

X, Y AND ZEE with Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine coming?

SONY has another Michael Caine film, a really under-rated WWII mission film called PLAY DIRTY. I really wish they'd release this. I caught it on TV recently and it was a pan & scan job after beautiful widescreen opening credits. Terrific performances from Caine and Nigel Davenport and tense...

A Few Words About A few words about... The Phantom of the Opera -- In High Definition

How does the new media handle scratches? Are they using that new protective layer I heard about last year that was supposed to be a major improvement over current DVDs? Like most people here, I'm careful with my discs but there's nothing more annoying that getting a problem disc from a place...

David Lynch Room to Dream (Inland Empire)

Has it been confirmed this is really part of Inland Empire? I have my doubts. It looks more like something created either specifically for the Avid DVD or for his website. I wasn't at all crazy about the quality of the DV he used either, though I think the segment was bizarre and very funny...

Any chance of a WS version of "The Shadow"?

Same here! It's one of my favorites by Jerry Goldmsith and I frequently listen to it. I liked the choice of Alec Baldwin and some of the imagery but the uneven tone and story didn't win me over. There's a wealth of material to be explored with the Shadow's agents and the whole issue of the...

Any chance of a WS version of "The Shadow"?

I wonder why its pan & scan if it was shot full negative. Wouldn't it be open matte if they weren't going to go widescreen on the DVD? Maybe for incomplete effects shots?

    attention WB: more ALTERED STATES

Maybe I dreamt this after a visit to that Mexican tribe but I swear I read on a forum that a special edition was already in the works for this film. Also, a couple of years ago it was reported that Warner had hired a screenwriter for a planned remake. No idea what happened to that. Maybe the...

Paul Newman's Birthday and no "Mackintosh Man", "Harper", "Drowning Pool&qu

I really expected The Mackintosh Man to be out already since they mentioned it for a future release almost 2 years ago in the HTF chat. I also think its very underrated. There's some terrific scenes in it such as Newman's escape from the mansion and later on the car chase through the stone...

THE CONFORMIST on TCM (airdates and issues)

I couldn't believe it myself but TCM showed the Italian version with subs last night. I almost didn't record it either because I already had it from last summer. This version didn't have the blind dance scene. I'm really psyched that TCM got hold of this for last night's broadcast.

    Lindsay Anderson's "If..."

Me too! It's been at the top of my wanted list for years. I keep hoping for some official word from Paramount. It's frustrating. The fact that commentaries were recorded and the release scrubbed at the last minute does lend itself towards some kind of legal snaggle but whoever knows sure...

Billion Dollar Brain - Music Rights Cleared?

Thanks very much Peter. That's a shame. I had some small hope Sony/MGM might release it uncut. There's no dropout during the Begley credit on the R2. The audio distortion occurs during the Film Editor credit. Sounds like an old tape thats been stretched. The other foreign language tracks...
