I know it's been a while, but I thought I'd update you on what happened. I did try running in full mode for a few hours, and it made a difference. The flickering still appeared now and again, so I repeated the process, and haven't seen it since. It's been quite a while now, so I'd guess it...
Leo, thanks for posting that info. It was all new to me, and I had no idea that the current limiting circuitry was either present or necessary. I'll certainly take it on board. The only issues I've heard about before are to do with the lamp temperature and cooling system. (And if it helps I...
If by "hotspot" you mean an area that's brighter than the rest of the image, then no, I haven't seen anything like that. I haven't noticed the fan doing anything differently, but I'll check. Can you explain what you mean by ballast? I should probably also point out, if it helps, that the...
Hi, I've had an intermittent problem with what seemed to be a flickering lamp on my projector. I even started a thread about it here some time ago. After a few months of observing the issue, I'm less convinced it's a problem with the actual lamp/projector, so I've started looking elsewhere. My...
That's good news. And I'm starting to wonder if my problem is actually to do with the electricity supply. I noticed that the light in another room starts flickering in a similar way and then stops.
Let me know what happens. Oddly enough my flickering problem came back today (coincidence that I had the red light the other day?). This time I left it running after the movie finished and noticed it goes after a while. Maybe it's not temperature related but something else?
That's worrying. What were the symptoms leading up to it buring out? Mine has been fine since I started this thread, and I've become convinced it was just a temperature problem (we were experiencing some extreme heat here at the time!). But I did have a panick the other day though, when the lamp...
Thanks, the difference is certainly visible on those shots. Especially viewed at full size. I've never noticed the framing before though, but looking at the screen caps I see what you mean. And yes the transfer was always dirty, even the old one is vary grainy (I've just watched Star Trek 3...
I'm suprised more people in R2 haven't noticed this. The difference between the two versions is pretty big, and it's an obvious thing to notice. Even the R2 DVD review sites don't mention it. (Which just shows how useless online DVD reviews can be sometimes!). The UK VHS was the same as the...
This is something that's been bothering me for a while. The region 2 barebones edition of Star Trek Generations had an anamorphic transfer (unlike the region 1). When they released the SE, all regions got a new anamorphic transfer. Aside from the differences in the quality of the transfers...
That's espeically weird about episode 1, since the other movies look so good (original trilogy only suffers from being old film stock). I won't bother sitting through it again to see if it's true though! :)
That really sucks to release it so many times without a new transfer. As I said, edge-enhancement is so bad that it shows up along the picture borders. Some of the reviews I read were written quite recently, not way back in 2000/2001. I guess those guys just really are suckers for new packaging...
I'm in region 2 and decided to rent Independence Day on DVD so that I could check it out on my home theatre. I know there have been a lot of versions on this on DVD, so I'm not sure which version I was sent. But I do know it was released in 2004, has a DTS track, the extended version of the film...
Thanks, I'll be watching some movies over the bank holiday weekend, so I'll see if the problem persists and then get in touch with BENQ. As I said, it is fairly mild and only occurs for a couple of minutes at a time. Is there any chance this could be due to overheating? I ask this because the...
Ah so 90% is the life left! Okay, now I feel slightly dumb. :) But it is flickering mildly - that's what led me to look at the usage in the first place. Any ideas what it could be if the lamp is still alive and well?
I bought a BENQ PE7700 projector in June last year. So far I've only had 318 hours use out of it, and the lamp life indicator is already showing 90% and showing signs of failing - and this is in eco mode! I know there were problems with this at one point, but they were meant to have been fixed...
I know it will work with any movie (I always use the DSP settings anyway, which also have the effect of using the back speaker). But, the 5.1 matrix and 6.1 modes are the only ones where the back speaker is intended to be used, so would be mixed with this in mind. I just meant, that with this in...
If you think about it, it's not surprising that there will be differences in the sound, since the new one has Dolby 5.1 Ex and DTS 6.1, while the original only has Dolby 5.1. It may not have been a conscious descison by the technitians to bring up the sound effects levels in favour of the music...
I sort of see what you mean. The transfer looks good on the new one, although it's not the amazing quality I would expect from a movie being spread over two discs (I guess the DTS 6.1 and the pods are responsible for that). But it's no worse that the original, and there is a clear advantage of...
The first edition has very good sound, that's true. I've owned it for years and always enjoyed the sound. But having recently bought a projector, I think I need an anamorphic version, despite the letterbox version being pretty good. As long as I don't get anything too drastically different in...
What annoys me the most is that it's the honest paying customer that's being shafted. I mean okay, sure, the ads aren't that long, but I hate the idea that we buy DVD's, legally and properly, and then effectively get told off about pirating every time we want to watch the movie! Talk about...
Yeah it's weird about that. And apparently they pulled a documentary intended for the DVD! :frowning: But I also noticed that a version of the film with an alternative ending was released earlier this year. But does your R2 version have the annoying anti-piracy ad at the start?I'm really...
