I have some old monster cable, probably about ten years old and it has tarnished like copper has a tendency to do. Will that tarnish hurt the sound of the music. I’m thinking it won’t but what are the thoughts on this? Thanks Bart

I agree, get the RCA 12 gauge it’s a perfectly fine speaker wire. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on wire. To spend any more is to simply to be putting more money into the salesman’s pocket. You’ll sleep well at night.

You might have a receiver that has a switch for moving magnetic (MM) or moving coil (MC) type of cartridge. Make sure it’s on the correct setting. A wrong setting will cause that problem. Or as other have suggested you might need a phone cartridge amp. I think Radio Shack sells such a thing.
