The Z9 and the new Star Wars DVDs - EX? PLIIx? Curious!!

Actually, I think this is the norm for EX flagged signals when you have a 7.1 setup. I see the same thing on Harry Potter 2, which is also EX. Since most DVDs are not EX flagged, I just have not seen this before. Not sure why you don't see it on episode 4??

The Z9 and the new Star Wars DVDs - EX? PLIIx? Curious!!

Interesting observation. I see similar behavior on my 1400, except I also get the results for episode 4. As you say, it goes into PLIIx Movie when Auto is on. It does its standard setup for the THX intro (breaking glass, big letters) but right after that, the surround back light comes on and it...

Receiver Help for Whole Home Audio

Looks like a great choice. I have a friend who is looking for something like this and the Onkyo looks like a great option, especially given the response from the installers. I wasn't aware of it. Thanks for the info.

Receiver Help for Whole Home Audio

Mike SJ -There is an phono input on the Yamaha receivers like the 2300 and 3300.

Receiver Help for Whole Home Audio

I found that there here are very few mass market 2 channel stereo integrated amps made these days, so it is hard to get a deal on them. So, I use a Yamaha RX-V995 receiver for this type of use. I would recommend getting last year's model of a high quality mass-market receiver, like the RX-V3300...

Best Demos for Dolby Pro-Logic IIx ... here is one

Thanks Roger. That solves part of the question. I'll try to find out what the Yamaha DSP does with the surround back channels after IIx has created it.

Best Demos for Dolby Pro-Logic IIx ... here is one

Roger - On the Yamaha 1400 it seems like you can apply both PLIIx and a Yamaha DSP mode (like Sci-Fi or Suround Enhanced) for 5.1 sources. Do you know how they interact? Does IIx create the surround back channels from the orignal signals and then does the DSP mode modify both the surround and...

    Yamaha RX-v2400 vs. RX-v1400

MuneebM Glad you got it reset. As to the EX/ES ON discrete (that is what Yamaha calls it) - I use it regularly and it does not cause the EX/ES to disappear from the togle options. The toggle still has all three commands. So, it seems like the editor is doing something different than the...

    Yamaha RX-v2400 vs. RX-v1400

I have not used the editor (only have a 1400), so I have not seen this. You might try issuing the EX/EX ON discrete code (7E7D) from the remote. That might unlock something, although I am just guessing. Instructions for issuing extended IR commands are on the Yamaha website on the IR Control...
