    Screens....Again

Thanks, I am pretty sure that I am going to go with the chunk of mdf painted aluminum, I have been reading alot lately, and many many people like the way it turns out, and if I don't like it, I can always paint it white afterwards.

    Screens....Again

I just picked up a used Infocus 4800 with 800 hours on it for $500 CAD, I was planning and still am planning on going with a Panasonic 900. The problem is that the screen size that the Infocus puts out is alot smaller then the Panasonic, and I am at the stage where I am about to get a screen...

Basic wall building and permit questions

Alberta is a little lax on its home building rules and I only required 1 inspection. As well, I only had to get the permits after I did the basic framing (all non-load bearing). I then got the construction and electric permits, did the electrical and had the inspection. During the...

    HT room without window, legal?

I'm in Alberta, and I framed over the window in my HT room (or else I would have had to build up the ceiling in the area of the window) and I can't call it a bedroom. My basement already had two escapes (window in other room and stairs), as well, the ceiling is too low for proper bedroom...

    Attaching seats to concrete

Impact drill with concrete bolts. You might have difficulty getting rid of the tops of the bolts if/when you want to take them out. But they won't move once you put them in.

Basic wall building and permit questions

I am just finishing up my HT room and my computer room in my basement. (I'm in Alberta) I went with full permits for everything, electrical and building, my total cost was $108 with the inspection, and I am glad that I did. The inspector was really good and helped out with suggestions for...

    Pre-wire

I am a big fan of using the thickest wire you can get. I just finished putting up the drywall in my HT room and I used 14 guage all around. It was the best price point for the wiring at Home Depot.

    in wall speaker interconnects

Another thought that I have come up with is to hack apart stereo component interconnect cables and solder those to the speaker wire then plug those into the backs of the RCA jacks and have that inside the wall, shorten up the RCA cables on the speakers have something that looks pretty on the...

    in wall speaker interconnects

I am working on developing my basement right now, and it is split up into two separate rooms, a computer room (wee, only 6' x 9') and my home theater room (10 x 14). I am just about to start wiring the computer room for sound. (I figured that I should get some practice before I get to the...

    Theater Room Size Question

My wife and I bought our first house about 6 months ago, and now that we are all moved in and Christmas is over and the dog (7 months old now) is pretty much trained, it is home theater room time. In my basement I have the stairs running down the middle of the house and I have the furnace...

Rough design of possible first DIY speaker...

I've had a big hilti drill bind up on me while doing an asphalt core sample. It pretty much nuked all the tendons in my right wrist. Good times. Home Depot will most likely have routers for rent. If not, there are tool rental places around most towns.

*** Official VAN HELSING Discussion Thread

I saw it on sunday, and I was entertained. I wasn't looking for some brain stretching kind of experience, just to be entertained for a couple of hours and I was. I will see VH again before I see any of the Matrix sequels again.

    The Eternal Angelriffic Thread (Merged)

Near the end of Buffy, when Andrew was filming everything and he was making comments on the skillful crafting of the window that Xander replaced while Willow and what's her face were making out: GAY Spike called him a ???? (can't remember the exact term, but it means gay) in the episode with...

    Flooring for HT dedicated room

My wife and I have recently been looking at buying a house, most of the ones that we have looked have unfinished basements. Which is perfect for what I want to do with them. An unfinished basement is one of high priorities in what I want in a house. But now I am in the planning stages for the...

    Upgrade Processor: Thermal Paste required?

I'm a big fan of using better thermal transfer goob then the stock slab of wax that comes on the stock cooler. Even if you are only running at stock speed, a good thermal transfer material will cool your CPU a couple of degrees.
