The soundtrack was remixed in true stereo from the prerecording masters for the laserdisc which was later used for the DVD. I’m not certain the Perspecta track survives. The new track I am certain would be superior to the.Perspcta one in any case. Let’s hope for a Blu-ray with the 5.1 track.
My 5.1 set up has a center speaker under my monitor and the LR speakers on the floor. Surrounds are on speaker stands around ear level. Sounds awesome to me that way. Not sure why having the main speakers on the floor is an issue.
Mine arrived. Sadly, Disc 4 is a duplicate of Disc 2. The rest of the set is a revelation. I’ve already notified Craft. There’s no point in returning the set to Amazon for a replacement as most likely it will have the same defect.
For what I’ve been reading on the Film Score Monthly website, the European pressings seem to be OK. Those coming from Craft and Amazon have the problem. I just received the confirmation that mine will be arriving from Amazon tomorrow. I will keep you posted.
Yes! I saw it at the Film Forum in New York City about 10 years ago. It’s one of the few early two color Technicolor features that still survive with the original negative.
Please! Have they corrected the lack of stereo sound faux pas yet? I’m still stuck with my mono sound copy and am still waiting for a replacement program to be announced. Calling George Feltenstein.
The audio track has great fidelity, but it would’ve been nice had they remixed it in stereo as the original incidental music tracks survive. I have the CD of the film remixed in stereo from the session tapes and they sound phenomenal.
I received my copy yesterday and watched it this morning. Stunning presentation. It’s so nice to finally see it in it’s intended AR, including the title sequence, which is shown in open matte on TCM. I’m very pleased.
