A Few Words About The Big Country (redux) -- in Blu-ray

Do you have the Kino version to compare the video? Or did I miss something. Since I already have the MGM and Kino versions I want to make sure that there is a boost to the video before another Big Country purchase. Thanks

Believe WSS 1961 is being screened in December at the time of the new movie release! Could be wrong as I didn't pay much attention to the commercial.

You are correct. Home From the Hill did indeed open at the Music Hall in NYC. Perhaps it did play 2nd run at Loews State.

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

I have never seen deleted footage from BH and assume that all such scenes were trashed. One scene that is clearly cut out from the film is at the beginning...The family with Simonides and Esther are going to drink a toast and wish for a safe return to Antioch. The photo of this scene is...

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

Regarding the Barabbas track...It was never utilized in the film only as an album 'Overture". The actual Overture used in the Roadshow version is the track Intermezzo on the lp or cd versions...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Silence of the Lambs -- in 4k UHD Blu-ray

What I don't understand is that the Criterion disc is based upon the same master. No? And it doesn't exhibit this problem.

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

Wow! I've seen Ben-Hur many, many times, own all video releases(certainly hope it comes to 4K UHD) but never heard about Messala's girlfriend. Yes, Marina Berti plays the girl who is trying to keep Ben-Hur in Rome and assume her part was drastically cut down.

Biblical-Roman-Egyptian epics not yet on Blu-ray

I saw FOTRE the second day after the NYC opening at The DeMille Theater. Thus, I'm pretty sure I saw the most complete original version. Unfortunately, the Tiomkin music gave me such a blaring headache I remember little about that showing except for the music, the stupendous sets and...

The Egyptian is certainly on Blu ray. The TT version is long sold out but there may be overseas version available for sale.

Well Miklos Rozsa composed one of his loviest melodies for her character. IMO Elizabeth Taylor is quite lovely in Ivanhoe.

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

To those who have the new blu ray set... is the Overture et al on either disc or both and how is the sound. In a year, 1960, of big epic films The Alamo revived the Best Sound Academy Award.

Status of George Stevens' "The Greatest Story Ever Told"

i believe the 260 minute version references a preview or earlier cut of the film. TGSET opened in NYC at 3 hours 40 minutes or so plus intermission.

Status of George Stevens' "The Greatest Story Ever Told"

In it’s original Roadshow run at the Warner Cinerama in NYC it surely was a magnificent looking and sounding film. It’s a shame that TGSET will never be restored to the version I saw way back in Feb 1965.

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

Twilight Time released Hawaii and Criterion released Mad World. I will be very surprised if Criterion doesn’t release The Alamo.

    "The Alamo"s Status?

Re: The Hindenburg at the UA 150 The showing of The Hindenburg at this theater was quite spectacular. The sound came from all over theater with an emphasis on over head sounds. This was 45 years or more prior to the advent of Dolby Atmos.

    "The Alamo"s Status?

I did see Patton on the D150 screen in the UA 150'in Woodbury. The showing covered the complete screen. What was unusual about it was that a week earlier it played at the UA Syosset (which was down the block) in 70mm. Needless to say the presentation at the UA 150 was more impressive. As I...

    "The Alamo"s Status?

My favorite theater on Long Island was the UA 150 theater in Woodbury NY. Saw many 70mm presentations where the screen was fully opened. Like many of our favorites theaters it's long gone.

    "The Alamo"s Status?

Re The Bible The screen utilized for showing at Loew's State for The Bible was quite large and was much larger than the normal 70mm presentations. Re: The Sand Pebbles I believe TSP was cut in January 1967 within a month of the premier. I saw the uncut version in December 1966. My parents...

    "The Alamo"s Status?

There might have been an ad to two for films being shown on the D150 screen at the Rivoli. Of course there were two Roadshow films that played in NYC theaters that were indeed filmed in D;150. They were The Bible at the Loews State and Patton at the Criterion. The Criterion was shown on their...

Too bad. I guess Wayne's The Alamo will never be seen as originally released. Missed out on seeing The Alamo at The Rivoli. The sound and picture must have been something to hear and see.

Besides possibly the missing ToddAO credit in the titles what would be the difference between that old laser transfer and the actual original Roadshow version. Thanks
