HUGE Receiver upgrade: Integra, NAD, Rotel, Marantz (Help me please!)

Thanks guys... I think it's pretty sweet too. Makes the rest of my gear look like kiddie toys. Only "downside" is that I am using the the Rotel remote for everything... my wife was mad b/c she had just figured out how to use the other Universal (Rat Shack) that I had programmed using JP1. Not...

HUGE Receiver upgrade: Integra, NAD, Rotel, Marantz (Help me please!)

Just wanted to thank you all again for your input and to let you know that I went for the Rotel RSX-1055. I had the component video inputs/output upgraded to handle HD signals (200Mhz). I picked it up yesterday and set the badboy up last night (was up until ab 2 AM playing). So far, so good...

    Magnepan Subwoofer suggestions please

Oh, and thx for the suggestion Stephen. I live in a townhouse at the moment, so I unfortunately have nowhere to build my own - and a 1 year old occupying much of my home time. I would love to give it a go as it seems like something I could really get into. I have a background in sculpture and...

    Magnepan Subwoofer suggestions please

Called Hsu and they recommend the STF-2 and setting the crossover to 90hz (the upper limit of the STF-2). They claim the MMG Ws step down from 100hz very subtlety and that they should mate very well. I am still skeptical ab this... the guy who went with the STF-3 with them said he was not happy...

    Magnepan Subwoofer suggestions please

Awesome Chris! Thanks for the info. I am going to call Hsu and see what they recommend. I just had a guy tell me over on a planar speaker forum that Dr. Hsu recommended that he go with the STF-3 for his particular room. Your comment is dead on apparently - Dr. Hsu mentioned his own electrostat...

    Magnepan Subwoofer suggestions please

Thanks for the suggestions guys... any other suggestions would be welcomed? The review of the Rava states: "It would be best to pair this sub with a large pair of bookshelf speakers or a floor-standing pair, so that you can set the crossover to a frequency around 50 Hz, lessening the boomy...

    Magnepan Subwoofer suggestions please

Hey guys - I am going to be ordering the MMG W speakers from Magnepan for my little room. The MMG W apparently will not reach below 100hz, so they really need a subwoofer. My concern is that with the wrong sub I could end up with a big "midbass gap" in there. I was told that large subs would...

    Bose Acoustimass Alternatives

Hey Paul - I not too long ago moved from a similar speaker sub/sat package. I believe mine was the HKTS 1 or 2? Anyway, they weren't terrible for the price. My dad had some Bose speakers and I def preferred my HK sats. That said, I think you are looking in the right places. I upgraded to Energy...

    Rotel 1055 vs 1056

PS - here is the info on the HD comp upgrade for the RSX 1055 (from Rotel's website): "The original bandwidth of the RSX 1055’s component video inputs is 10MHz. However more recent shipping models have upgraded this bandwidth to 200MHz to support HDTV bandwidth. There is an upgrade available...

    Rotel 1055 vs 1056

The RSX 1056 will have video upsampling and three HD component inputs. The RSX 1055 does not allow you to send different video inputs (composite, S-video) to one monitor out. They can only switch S-video to an S-video out, composites to the composite out, component inputs to the component...

7.1 Speaker placement/setup - is this doable and worthwhile?

Great link Chu. Thanks for the info. There are clearly some things in there that will help make my room sound better. That said, I still have a question... b/c of the SAF (spousal approval factor), my back rear channels (6 and 7 of 7.1) will have to be placed high on the wall behind the...

7.1 Speaker placement/setup - is this doable and worthwhile?

Thanks John -- would you advise a bipole/dipole speaker like energy's switchable CR-3? (I say energy b/c it would timbre match my current energy speakers). Or do you think one of the take 2.2 sats would work for the back surround?

7.1 Speaker placement/setup - is this doable and worthwhile?

Hi guys. I currently have a 5.1 setup with the surrounds mounted high on the back wall to either side of the listening position, the couch. Unfortunately, b/c of room constraints, I cannot move the couch away from the wall and in adding the "rear back" speakers I would have to place them on the...

    Wire for Subs

Cool - thx Tom and Wayne. Great info... btw, Home Depot is where I bought the RG6 Quad.

    Wire for Subs

Wow - very interesting info Tom. I had no idea I could use RG6 for my sub. I am actually thinking about repositioning my sub and will need to run some wire and if RG6 works well, it would be a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a long enough pre-made audio cable. I happen to have a bunch of quad...

HUGE Receiver upgrade: Integra, NAD, Rotel, Marantz (Help me please!)

Thanks for the nudge... i think that is really what I am looking for. Is there anything else out there that could give me a similar sound for a little less cash? And perhaps something that has high bandwidth component video switching and perhaps an onboard amp for a 6th speaker? If I go with the...

HUGE Receiver upgrade: Integra, NAD, Rotel, Marantz (Help me please!)

Apologies in advance for the long post gents. I have been hovering for a little bit now. I am looking to upgrade from what was at the time of purchase a $300 Technics (SADX-90?) receiver which was my first experience with a home theater. I started with a H/K sub/sat system and now have the...
