While watching sports, sometimes I've noticed that the HD quality is great during some shots (closeups) and near horrible at other times (wide shots of an entire field). Can anyone explain why? I'm watching Cowboys vs. Browns now and am noticing this big time now.
I have the exact PSB setup you've listed here, but I have an SVS sub (New PB12-NSD). I love the sound! Obviously the source material is key, but on BD, DVD, Apple TV and even cable, the sound is great in my 10 x 22 room. You'll never regret the PSBs.
Thanks Jeff, I totally forgot about the Recall button. When I set the BD player at 'Auto' for the resolution, then hit 'Recall' on the TV remote, turns out the player chose 1080p by default anyway, so there you go! Live Free or Die Hard looked awesome last night!
Makes sense, too - thanks. So it sounds like my TV can accept 1080i or 1080p, and I'll stick with the 1080p setting since there are less steps in converting the signal.
Thanks for the advice, Allan. One question though. Since I'm passing the signal through my Onkyo 805 via HDMI, would the "Auto" setting still choose the best resolution for my plasma? I have no way of knowing what it's picked, and for all I know could be 1080i/p, 720p or 480p. I don't think my...
Makes perfect sense - thanks Jeremy! What about what Allan said above about the setting, in that it "could cause damage". Is there any danger of setting it at 1080p? Thanks again.
Thanks Allan, that makes some sense. I do have the option of setting 24p on or off, but it's grayed out and I cannot change it. Is that because my plasma doesn't support it? I also have the option of setting the plasma's resolution to "Auto" instead of 1080p, 1080i or 720p. Maybe I'll just do...
I have a 50" Panasonic plasma (TH-50PX75U with 1366x768 [720p] native resolution) and the Panny BD30 Blu-ray player. The setup allows me to choose 1080p on the BD30 player. Since my plasma is 768p, would selecting 1080p be a bad thing? Would it be a better or worse choice than choosing 1080i or...
I have a Panasonic TH-50PX75U plasma with 1366 x 768 Resolution, and the Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player. If I choose "Auto" on the HDMI resolution setting on the BD30, how do I know what resolution the player has selected? Because my plasma is 1366 x 768, I never know whether to choose 720p...
What's the most optimal video resolution setting for a Panasonic TH-50PX75U? It's native resolution is 1366x768 and it always says (720p in parenthesis). I have a Motorola cable box and an Oppo 981 DVD player, and I can choose 1080i or 720p with both. The TV is 50" and I sit about 9.5 feet away...
I have the 705 and if you push the 'surround' button on the remote, the correct dolby surround track will play from the DVD. Usually. Same with HD content on cable or satellite.
I just bought a new Onkyo TX-SR705, and I have a question. I have an Oppo DVD player and a HD cable box connected to the receiver via HDMI, and then an HDMI cable out to my Panasonic plasma. The TV's speakers are off, and audio is not passed out to the TV's speakers from the 705. When I'm...
Thanks, FeisalK. That's what I set it at, but when I re-read the instructions, neither setting seemed a total match. What would this setting affect? Any change in sound quality?
Hello. I have a question on impedance. I have the following PSB Image speakers. 5T (2), C40, 2B (2). I have an Onkyo AVR (TX-SR703), and I can choose either 4 or 6 ohms for the impedance setting, and I'm confused as to which one to choose. From my Onkyo owner's manual: "4 ohms: Select if...

So the 5.1 analog option would sound better? What would my AVR process it as? If the hi-def player can decode the new formats, and I connect using analog, what happens in my receiver? Thanks!
I'm thinking of getting a new HD DVD player (the Toshiba HD-A2 or A20, or A3/A30), and I currently have an Onkyo AVR that does not have HDMI. I plan to connect the player to my Panasonic plasma using HDMI for the video, and using either 5.1 analog or digital optical to my Onkyo for the audio...

Hi. I have a 50" Panasonic plasma (TH-50PX75U with 1366x768 [720p] native resolution) and an upconverting DVD player from Oppo. If I get into the next generation of players, will the image quality look THAT much better than what my Oppo can do (using HDMI)? I only ask because the focus seems...

Hello. I have a PSB Subsonic 6 (not the 'i' model), and I have questions about it. When I get good bass coming out of it, the screen/grill has an audible rattle or clicking, although there are no broken or cracked plastic pieces on it. Also, since it rattles, I removed the grill, and now during...
Yes I do, and it's on, and makes a difference. I'm pretty happy so far, although it got late last night, and I only tried Star Wars III and the Office DVD to listen. Any suggestions for a "reference" DVD that's good overall, and maybe one that's especially good at dialogue? Thanks!
My PSB guy, on a second visit, suggested setting the L and R at full band, and the center and surrounds at 60Hz, and the sub at 80, and at 150 on the sub itself (you were right). I reset the Onkyo and tried this without ever touching the setup mic. The PSB guy also suggested leaving the Onkyo's...
I stopped into a PSB dealer, and he suggested setting the L, R and C speakers as Full Band and the surrounds at 80Hz. He then told me to set the sub's cutoff at 90 on the sub itself, and at 100 on my AVR. As for EQ settings, like everyone else, he told me to tinker until I get what I like...
Weird question, I know, but I'm having trouble understanding and adjusting the equalization of my speakers using my Onkyo AVR. That's another thread. After fiddling for 2 days, I wondered - do I have "good" speakers? I was thinking of the Definitive ProCinema 1000 to replace what I have, but I'm...
