The new Toshiba 42H83: my review

Wow, when I got my HDTV cable box I could definitely see the difference between 1080i movies on cable and DVD. How much are those conversion units?

    finding nemo halos

Thanks, that's good to know. I didn't listen to the commentary on the DVD. The making of documentary was excellent, though. Just wish they had produced it in widescreen :) .

    finding nemo halos

Finding Nemo looked great for the most part on my Toshiba. However, in some shots there was a large orange halo around Marlin. It was only under certain lighting, and certain shades of blue water. I don't think this is a convergence problem. Any thoughts? I guess its some sort of color bleed...

Dilema - which 46" RPTV to choose

Okay, I should've poked around the forum before posting my previous message. From what I gather this vertical ghost line is a common Toshiba thing. I found it funny that 90% of the mentions also said they saw it during hockey. I guess if its not a problem with my particular set then exchanging...

Dilema - which 46" RPTV to choose

Could someone elaborate further on the Toshiba 'white line'? I recently purchased one, and earlier today while watching a hockey game, I noticed a faint vertical line near the center of the screen. I think it is most apparent during movement on a white background, hence my noticing it during...

    540p or 1080 i

Interesting footnote to this topic. I was watching a movie with subtitles tonight. When DVD output was set to 480p, the subtitles seemed to shake. It was subtle but very distracting. When I switched to 480i they were nice and stable.

    540p or 1080 i

Okay the below from Toshiba's website answers my question. In any IDSC Pro TV (which includes all the H83s, I think), 480i and 480p are automatically converted to 540p. On all H83s excepts the 42", you have the option to watch a 480 signal at 1080i: IDSC™ Pro : IDSC™ Pro coverts all 480i...

    540p or 1080 i

Thanks. If you say there is an option on the 57 then the 42H83 definitely doesn't have it. I vaguely remember reading on this forum recently that they didn't include that as an option on the 42". I just wanted to confirm. I switched back and forth between 480p and 480i on Two Towers, and...

    540p or 1080 i

Question: Do the HDTVs you are talking about have a menu option to switch between 540p and 1080i? I have a Toshiba 42H83, and haven't seen this option. Does anyone know if it converts everything to 1080i, or is the option a fancy name? Thanks Brian

The new Toshiba 42H83: my review

I realize this thread is almost 6 months old, but I just picked up a 42H83. I think I also see the faint horizontal lines. I think they are there with all sources. I definitely notice them on the 'Two Towers' DVD with any large sky shots. For those who posted on this thread, did you resolve this...

    Newbie setup questions (toshiba RPTV)

I ordered a Toshiba 42H83 which is set to be delivered this Saturday. I am really happy to have found this forum; it is a fantastic resource. I've read quite a few of the posts on setting up a new RPTV, but have several questions. First, it seems the consensus is to turn down the contrast on...
