I keep all my boxes. Especially, my box for my SVS PC-Ultra. 1) I'll use to ship if I ever upgrade. 2) If I go broke buying AV equipment I suppose it could be used as an inexpensive coffin. j/k
I've got a Yamaha 2400 and a PC-Ultra. Assuming: You've got a 4,300 sq room Footprint is not an issue WAF is not an issue Between the CS and PC-Ultra I'd go with the Ultra. The PEQ is nice. The phase control enabled me to get a couple dB higher. Besides, if you ever decide you want to...
No. One thing you'll want to do is get a Radio Shack SPL meter and a calibration disc (I rec Avia). After you get the sub just calibrate it so it is the same volume as the other speakers. Oh, if you haven't calibrated your current speakers you'll have to do that first (w/ Avia).
You may be able to get the dealer to send the receiver to Yamaha. They'll do the upgrade for free. The problem for people who have the receiver set up already is that they have to break down their system to get the upgrade. It sounds like your dealer is accomodating. You may not need it now...
Keith, If I recall from other posts you have a PB2+. If that's true and you have a small room then extra dB is probably not an issue. Try your sub away from a corner. 1/3 of the distance from one corner to the other.
You should get your SPL meter and Avia (or other disc with test tones) then measure your room response. Move your sub around to get the best response. Only then will you be able to determine whether an EQ will help.
I think you'd be very happy with the 1400. I've got the 2400, but if I was doing everything at once and on budget I'd go for the 1400. I think the amps will be fine for you. It's been rated very favorably on many forums. Punt on the CD player. Just go for a DVD player.
I don't use the 'both' setting, just 'sub.' I'm not familiar with you sub's settings; however, if there is a way to disable to crossover on the sub then disable it. If not, set the crossover at it's highest setting. Use your 1400's bass management/crossover.
If you can fit a PB-2 box then you might want to consider the PB2-isd. If sounds like you may end up needing EQ. Getting a sub that has some add'l headroom would help if you EQ.
If you're using your system >70% for music then just keep what you've got. If you using your system a fair or large percent of the time for HT then I'd suggest that you do return the sub either for an upgrade or a return all together if you are within your 30 day window. Try to get a sub that...
Derrik, Something definitely doesn't sound right. You shouldn't have to set the gain all the way up with your setting. Also, the gain shouldn't be set at either the low end or high end of the range. You should contact Tom V. as SVS. He'll help troubleshoot. Do you have some sort of...
It's ~3,600 ft.^3 with two openings which one is rather large. If you are interested in the sound of the Ultra you might want to consider a post directed to CS-Ultra owners. There will probably be a high degree of similarity between the two subs.
Are you playing at Reference Level? If so, it's no wonder why you neighbors were upset with you. First, calibrate (even with your other speakers) then turn the volume down while listening -- assuming you were playing at RL.
I'm not a DIY'er; however, I think that it would have been really cool to take up sub making when I was your age. I am the mechanical type, but I also have a spouse who probably wouldn't like anything that I built. There are several DIY sites; unfortunately, I don't know the links. I am sure...
