Can someone build/sell me a DIY SVS clone

Or, you could just find $50 more bucks and get a Rava from Adire. totally pre-built, just unbox and plug in. http://adireaudio.com/ Click on home audio, then Rava.

    Cables. SCART and beyond

For those who hadn't heard of SCART: http://www.whatvideotv.com/articles/...02_scart.shtml]http://www.whatvideotv.com/articles/...cart.shtml[/url] They do make SCART to RCA: http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/6...rca-phono.html I'm not sure about the distance limitations.

Bunk Voice Coil, what are my options

How long have you had them? Can you send it back to MCM? Most likely, that driver isn't going to be something they would fix, just replace.

Using sonotube for speakers other than subwoofers?

I did a set with MDF fronts and backs. Details here: http://boston.tzo.com:8080/lewis/speakers/ (It's on port 8080 since it's hanging off a cable modem, so you may not be able to check it behind a firewall.) They came out fairly nice for using a LEAP crossover. The finish was rough but...

What to look for when choosing speakers for DIY project?

We were all beginners at one point. A kit or published design is a good way to ensure satisfaction and make sure you don't feel like you've wasted time and effort.

    PE crossover question

I had Adire assemble the crossovers for my 281 kit. I don't believe it was very expensive at all. As Thomas said, generic crossovers would ruin the Kit 281 because a lot of time has been put into the design.

    Fixing a truck stereo speaker

It's likely you can order the same speaker from parts express. http://www.partsexpress.com/eflyer/seeflyer.html Click on the 87 cents page. If you're up to taking both doors apart, I would upgrade so that it doesn't just happen again. Check out their vifa deals and other speakers. Any...

    Shiva VS. Pearless 12" XLS

Rich, I've had one of these in my Jeep. It does not sound sluggish at all. I've never put my shiva in a car but I was happy with sound quality and tiny box size of the XLS. They are releasing an XXLS soon, it was demo'd at CES. I believe I saw the notes on this site?

    Titanic or Shiva?

I just used one of the 250 watt MCM plate amps in a project for my neighbor. It looks very similar to the PE model and works well. I would recommend it. Also, you may want to check out the AV12 driver. I've never seen one, but they have some fans here.

Rubber surround repair: Silicon, RTV, Goop?

I poked a hole in the AV-8 when making the mains and center. I put some crazy glue on it and later asked Dan about it. He said it should be ok. I'm not sure it was ideal as it is not flexible. The tear was about the size you have there. The advantage I saw to the crazy glue vs. what you're...

Small DIY sub to match AV/1s for music

You could also go with a Peerless XLS 12. They have very small enclosure requirements.

    Any active monitor projects?

Apex Jr. has some amps designed for this purpose and plans for tweaking the crossovers in them. I'd check it out.

    Sub finish update!

So has it been suggested that you stain the front channel speakers to match? ;) Nice job on the finish.

    Amps

I have a Crown CE-2000. It's quite a workhorse. My brother has the CE-2000. No complaints with either. He shorted the CE-1000 and dimmed the house lights. The Amp was fine. ;) Depending on your alignment, you may exceed xmax with 1000 watts. The fan noise is something to consider, there are...

    Looking for a new sub

The Rava is amazing. No commercial sub will compare for $400, including the DefTech. Some reviews are on this page. adireaudio.com/news/news.htmI have on in my setup. I also have used the 95L ported shiva, the madisound swans, some random 15s and the earthquake magma 15. There are subs that...

The wife said Yes ... (longish)

My Fiance rocks. :emoji_thumbsup: We are moving to NYC in a year for career reasons. I told her we could just sell my Pioneer 50" and make do with whatever for a year since we're only going to be there for a year. She was like no way! I love that TV! It will fit! Now she wants subwoofers...

want to talk with other who own both, the costco pioneer 65" tv and outlaw 1050

I have a 51" Pioneer Elite and the Outlaw 1050 and I can't find a code for it. You may want to call the outlaws, they are very helpful. I just haven't had the time yet.

    PE Plate amp good deal

If you can use a soldering iron, you can remove the bass boost, and maybe rumble filter. They have mentioned how a few times on the PE tech board. Or you can call their tech support and they will email you the directions as well. I remember hearing they may also do this for you as well...

    Need advice on Crown amps

Parts express currently has some nice sale prices on crown amps. I'm sure it's not wholesale but they are priced pretty low. Check out their current flier. I have a Crown CE-2000. I use it primarily to melt subwoofers. That might be because it's too damn big for my application, or because my...

Clueless until the Rotel 1075 moved in

I've done the same thing, but on a slightly smaller budget. I'm using an Outlaw for my preamp and an Acurus 125x5 for the amplifier. I let the Outlaw drive the rear center channel for those movies that have it. I'm quite happy! :)

Is an Equalizer really worth getting?

In home theater, they aren't very useful. If your speakers are that uneven in response, you should get better speakers, or work on room noise control. You may want to get a bass equalizer to even out your subwoofer response with the in-room modes. But that is for much later in your quest.

Has anyone ever used CAT-5 for speaker connections?

Cat-5 will work, but just one strand will have a higher impedance since it's small gauge. All the DIY cat-5 cables recommend braiding 3 strands, which is a lot of work. You can get a spool of nice structural wiring from partsexpress.com for not a ton of money and it will be 12 ga. 100 ft...

Help! I live in the "lightning capital of the world!"

I have read in various places that tying several (3-5) overhand knots in the phone cord forms an inductor that will short out a lightning strike. It's mentioned here: (hit ctrl-f and search for knots) www3.macintouch.com/lightning.html Steve, Care to comment? You obviously know more...
