I bought them all at once and they all fall somewhere between very good and masterpiece. I go through phases as to which is my favorite. Right now it's the remastered Up The Downstair double disc w/ Staircase Infinities. WOW! Great sound.
It's my understanding that some amplifiers are more "musical" than others. I'm assuming this means some amplifiers are geared towards music reproduction rather than HT use. My listening preference is primarily music, so I'm interested in buying one of these "musical" amps. My problem is...
I saw an announcement on the AcousticSounds website about a "Best Of Seal" DualDisc. It is supposed to be released on the 9th. I haven't seen the release advertised anywhere else however. Does anyone have any inside scoop on this? I've been waiting for a DualDisc that appeals to me so that I can...
Muswell is stereo only. I also bought One For The Road and Give The People What They Want - all stereo only. Kind of a bummer, but they sound good (not as good as the MOFI Low Budget, but hey...). The CCR SACD's were mislabeled as well (I still have the "Hybrid Multichannel" stickers on the...
I think it is SACD's way of telling the DVD-A folks that they are taking over the world. The larger DVD-A cases have always been a better idea, IMO. I have to keep all of my SACD's separate from regular CD's because they look the same end-on. The DVD-A stuff is easy to identify in an audio...
I bought a "Van Halen's Greatest Hits 2" CD from some guy on Ebay (shipped from Hong Kong). He advertised the disc as "24-bit." I bought the disc more out of curiosity than anything else. I didn't expect to get a hirez CD. However, I've listened to it a few times and it sounds remarkably good...
I read in the Sept. issue of Sound & Vision that the Layla SACD is postponed indefinitely. What a absolute bummer. This is probably old news already, but writing this down is helping me to purge my sorrow.:frowning:
This is good to hear, but the underlying impediments to mainstream hi-rez adoption would still exist: 1) Joe Consumer just doesn't care too much about audio quality ("CD's sound great, and I can often make free copies!"). 2) Music labels are inept when it comes to marketing hi-rez. 3)...
Yes indeed, Photos And Memories is the best of his single album releases. It does not contain everything, but it is solid all the way through - no weak spots. I've found a pretty reliable source for music reviews: allmusic.com Enter the artist name and click on discography. They have reviews...
I wasn't aware that the release date was so soon. That's great. I have several hi-rez discs on order with the August 24th release date (Best of Sugarhill Gang, Allman Brothers at Fillmore, and several Kinks SACD's) I'll gladly add Nick Of Time to the order. My experience is that well-recorded...
Rather interesting actually... I also wonder about TV ratings. I know that there is / was such a thing as Neilson Ratings years ago. Do they still do this? I've never known anyone who participated in rating TV shows.(I don't mean to hijack the thread). Dave
Well, this is all good news to me. Any new format is welcome as long as I can buy more of the titles I like and use my existing universal DVD player. I personally don't care about copyright issues since I never burn discs (one is enough and I don't mind paying for it). I will forever scoff at...
Rain Song by Led Zeppelin: I heard this song about 5 years ago and was mesmerized. Zeppelin was just everyday hard rock to me before I heard this gem. Four Seasons by Vivaldi: The most beautiful of all classical / baroque music. I first heard it on the "Cosmos" (Sagan PBS special) soundtrack...
Talking Heads are coming to hi-rez? That's terrific! Lee, do you know which album(s)? Where did you hear about it? I'd like to check out the info. Tks, Dave Yaz would also be welcome in a surround format...
Scott, I agree with you 100% - this is one nasty remake of one of the great rock ballads. I'm kinda pissed at Skynyrd for letting the guy record it. But, no big deal, at least I never have to hear it again.:) Dave
My first DVDA player was a Toshiba SD-4700. It would not play some of the early DVDA discs (searching....searching). It was one of the first DVD Audio players, so that may explain the disc reading issues. Dustin, the problem you described sounds like the player does not recognize the disc. I had...
Ronstadt has the right to spew political mumbo jumbo and the crowd has a right to walk out. Big deal. I doubt Ronstadt created any new Democrats with her comments, and I also doubt that she really needs the money she will undoubtedly lose from reduced ticket revenue and music sales. If...
Another great country DVDA is the Silverline release called Classic Country. It's a compilation of original country stuff - the sound is very good and you get a variety of artists.
I have it on pre-order. I listened to some samples of the live stuff - yuck! You'd think a band like Van Halen would spend the money to get clean live cuts onto a disc like this, but apparently not. They probably assume everyone will listen to it on MP3 players anyway, so why bother with sound...
I wasn't overly impressed on the first listen, either. Multiple spins will pay big dividends, IMO. I can't vouch for the CD version, though the DVDA is superb.
Thirty years from now, we'll be talking about In Absentia - There's no doubt. I was listening to it on Friday night, and it has not left my player. My two years on HTF, I've never pumped a band... well, this is it. These guys are great. THANK YOU DTS ENTERTAINMENT!!! Some executive somewhere in...
