I hope the folks who run DVD Beaver come around here & read this...I think it is one of the finest dvd/film sites on the net & I hope they can find the means to continue..I wish I had $$ to donate but I don't...if I did, DVDBeaver is certainly one of the few sites it would go to...don't give up...

if you must own it now, the Italian version appears to be the obvious choice because of the digital fogging on the Japanese version...I have heard rumors that there will be a legit region 1 release of this soon (possibly from Criterion?) - just rumors, so take them w/ a grain of salt :)

hey all...I got the Peckinpah box from Deep Discount DVD & my disc 2 of the Wild Bunch is trash, so it's NOT just the Amazon boxes...neither of my set top players will play it properly & the dvd rom in my computer wont display anything at all...sigh, don't really know what to do at this...

good review! but to newbie horror fans, dont let some of the low scores fool you! if these are the same transfers as AB's previous versions of these films (& i suspect they are), you should know thatt they are, for all intents & purposes, the best transfers of these films domestically...

stephen, i say go for the Fluances...i got them & rather like them, especially for the $$$ i think i would have been pretty unhappy had i followed the advice i so often see here about "dont waste your money on a bad 5.1 setup, just piece it together over time & get decent L + R...

and computer programs that can magically enhance a washed out grainy security camera photo into a clear shot worthy of framing (or as is usually the case, the capture/identification of a bad guy) :)

the great thing about the Hanzo box is that it's pretty darn cheap too (under 40$ US) the LW&C manga is, to me, one of the pinnacles of the art of comic book storytelling...the films, brilliant as they are, could never hope to fit all the nuance & complex storytelling into a 90 minute film, but...

Ryan, I dont have "proof or facts" (which is why i put the word "seemingly" in there :) ) it's just a hunch I get while watching the film...watch the cutting/editing during some of the fight scenes closely to get a better idea...it is indeed a VIOLENT movie, but not a particularly GRAPHIC or...

the key for me is not the DTS track (it's a shame, but not paramount to the enjoyment of the film), but the restoration of the MANY (seemingly) cut/censored bits of violence in the film...i'm not the gorehound I used to be, but the whole tone of this film demands that the excessive violence be...

saw this this weekend w/ the wife (also saw Sin City!!!) - great date movie, fun film, Fallon wasn't overbearingly silly- movie also teaches a nice lesson about obsession & what's really important in life :)
