Things I wish I would have done differently in my project

If I could have done it over I would have saved up for each component, including the component called the room and installed it as a system instead of constantly upgrading. Does anyone ever do that? Maybe Bill Gates with his personal theater?:D

What better? Aim center: directly at head height? slightly below? slightly above?

Ear level directionality is so important to be locked dead center that they use microperfed screens to get it at commercial theaters. So, I like the dialogue from the center aimed directly at me. In installations where the cabinet is below the screen it is often aimed upward in that case.

    The ProSoundWeb LAB Subwoofer Project

Who in the world would use a Bass Tech 7, or SPL B-DEAP 32 cabinet in a vehicle? Has someone really done this for personal use, or was it a gig for WCES or an IASCA competition? Could any car audio amplifier control such subs?

HELP!!! Audi CD Changer Magazine Removal

I do not know of fuses in changers, but there may be. Try removing all the CDs from the magazine and inserting the empty magazine into the changer. Now turn on the unit and see if the cd goes back into the magazine. If it does not, look for a reset button on the changer. It will be a tiny hole...

    My TV died today

True, they do not have the longevity they used to. You may have had your horizontal oscillator do the light bulb effect and go out. It may be more in order to get another display with a warranty. Have you considered any other technologies beside direct-view (regular television's)?

    Help With Speaker Placement??

Wall-mounting and stands gives freedom to mount at the height you want. The RT251's have a good bass response provided by their rear-firing port built into the speaker's back plate, which doubles as a convenient keyhole wall mounting bracket. So, Polk implies wall mounting is okay. Both wall...

    New Battery Time

If you replaced your car battery with an Optima ( I would and I do use Optimas in both our cars), use a red top as they are starter batteries. A yellow top, being a deep cycle battery is good as a second battery with an isolator and a high output, or dual-output high-output alternator (for those...

    Dayton BR-1 DIY kit

Joe, you will be happy with the BR-1 tweeter. I have 7 BR-1 cabinets in a 7.1 in one of my systems and it reproduces the highs silky and lifelike. They are less harsh then Peerless tweets and and cost much less than Scan-Speak, Dynaudio, or Morel tweeters. For the money the Parts Express tweeter...

Yes, and the crossover assembly, although the most labor intensive part of the kit teaches one about crossover design and the need for proper polarity and soldering skills.

    Determining factors on sub purchase

"you don't gain anything in SPL by adding that clamshelled second sub. In other words, there's no real reason to use an isobaric enclosure of that sort. It doesn't gain you anything over a single 12" and you'd get more out of just having the two subs in their own sealed boxes. All you do...

    Determining factors on sub purchase

Audiobahn is total crap (this is all my opinion of course) That is hilarious! I mean it man, not being facetious, it was funny. My feelings on Rockford Corp. is that bad management has infested it from the beginning. This isn't slander, just an obsevation. Jim Strickland is a good engineer and...

    Dayton BR-1 DIY kit

From one of earlier posts: "The surrounds blow apart easily. It takes time to solder and wire them up, but it is great for a DIYer project." True use caution with soldering tweeter terminals (use heat sinks, or just not solder the tweet lead at all), but in the Dayton BR-1 kit what I was...

    Dayton BR-1 DIY kit

Wow, my post was in July and I am surprised the thread is still open. At $60 assembling the BR-1 is a good deal. You see how speakers are made and why certain things are done to reach the final goal of sound reproduction. I do not know the specs on the S26, you would have to compare the...

    Determining factors on sub purchase

Rockford moving into Crutchfield was a bad marketing move in my humble opinion. When I worked with Wayne in '95 the Tempe, AZ plant was doing the best they ever where. You would have to prove to me and this thread a valid source that the Michigan RAD speaker plant was spitting out shit like...

Who can claim to be the "biggest and baddest" sub?

E/V (electro-voice) makes sub drivers that can handle well over 2400 watts. If you want deep, articulate bass try the sub SVS and Velodyne copied, the M&K. Dual 12's in a push-pull sealed enclosure. The best sub made. Skywalker Ranch even bought some.:emoji_thumbsup: :b

    sound proofing worth it?

Ken, soundproofing is beneficial in the design phase of the theater. Sound absorption on the display and side walls at a minimum are needed as well. Contact Dennis at www.designcinema.com for some free white papers on this.

Yes, Ben welcome to the addiction. I like the wood entertainment center, classy. Nice DTS poster. Nice blue neon light in your PC. I would: 1. tow your mains in, (angle your front speakers to a 45 degree angle). 2. Definitely lift your surrounds so they are 2 to 3 feet above your ears for...

    Determining factors on sub purchase

A sub should not really be musical. A good sub in car audio, or home theater should be articulate (clear-not muddy) and that comes from clean, adequate power. A good sub should sound deep and solid. The enclosure is the trick to that. Many people (IASCA and USAC) swear by sealed enclosures. They...

    Hum in sub

I seal my approval of RG6Q with Patrick and Greg. It has 2 layers of foil shielding and 2 layers of braided shielding. You may also try a "cheater" adapter if the sub amp has 3-prongs to bring it to the outlet at 2-prongs to break a possible ground loop. $2 Home Depot, or Lowes. It killed the...
