    Connections diagram?

I just got a new receiver, and the arrangement I had on my previous receiver doesn't seem to work. I'll admit I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to this, so I'm in need of some help. Is there any resource for connection diagrams? I don't know what to run through the receiver, or tv or dvd...

    Help with Receiver Purchase

I have a decent one (I think). It was over $100 when I bought it a few years ago. And if I remember correctly, it was one that was recommended here. Thanks for the tip though.

Framing and lack of headroom in Excalibur

A year later... Anyone heard any news info on this? I'd like to see them come out with a SE. I was hoping with the influx of new movies in this genre, they might try and take advantage.

    Help with Receiver Purchase

Well based on some of the comments on other threads, I decided to look at the Pioneer 1014. I found one at Best Buy clearanced out and they gave me an open box price of $280. Below what I had planned on spending, so I'm pleased. Hopefully it treats me better than that dang Kenwood.

    Help with Receiver Purchase

I'm looking to get a new receiver this weekend, and would like some help choosing. Background: I currently have a Kenwood VR-6070. It's certainly not high end, but it does what I ask of it. The reason I'm replacing it is I'm having problems with the power/standby. Everytime we have any sort...

    Far Cry Demo problem

Definately a video card definciency. 64 is really a minimum for any of the good games these days. On the bright side, it's a fairly cheap, easy upgrade.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Definitely on the way

I guess the biggest reason I would look forward to a sequal is because of the "PG" nature of the movie. It seems like the 90s didn't really have a Star Wars or Indiana Jones type of series that could really leave an impression on young minds, and do it cleanly. I loved that this movie was so...

    Previously Viewed...Why Not?

Just an update...I've answered my own question. I ended up buying ten PV DVDS, so far I've watched three. The third one was ATOC and it must of been hella scratched...it's going back. 90 day return policy so it's not a problem, what is a problem is having ten DVDs that I feel like I need to...

HTF REVIEW: "The Ring" (with screenshots)

Interesting questions, let me try to answer them 1. The significance? It was the medium used by Samara to attack people. 2. Why not? Because the people who wrote the screenplay felt it was an effective means for Samara to inflict her bad will. 3. Samara made it. How? With supernatural...

Directors TOP 10 & HONORABLE MENTIONS LIST of Films Featuring Poker

Thanks for the list...There are some there that I haven't seen. The problem is, it's too expensive to watch these movies. Everytime I watch one, I find myself at the casino later that night:D Another movie that isn't really about poker, but has some pretty decent card playing is The...

    OAR...Letterbox...Compression...Huh?

Michael, that hit the nail on the head. I tried it and noticed a definate improvement in picture quality. Baby steps.... It's great to have a forum like where the "pros" still take the time to help out the "rookies". When I left the house one day to buy a DVD player, I never imagined the path...

HTF REVIEW: "jackass the movie" (warning: adult orientated review) (with screenshots)

I have to say that my ribs hurt the day after watching this, from laughing so hard. As far as rewatching, there are definately some scenes that are too gross to watch a second time...but they are outnumbered by the scenes that I could watch five times in a row laughing harder every time. The...

    OAR...Letterbox...Compression...Huh?

Thanks for the replies guys. Regarding the gray bars, I don't think it's calibration, but rather an option Toshiba offers to reduce the chance of burn-in. At least that's what the guy that sold me TV said. I'm beginning to get it (great link!), but I've come upon another question. If I set...

    OAR...Letterbox...Compression...Huh?

I've read through the primer regarding letterbox and widescreen and original aspect ratio, but I still don't have a good grasp on it. I bought a 36" Toshiba HDTV recently (3:4 right?). I choose it over a widescreen because for now we watch more TV than DVD and since I don't get HD televison...

I just checked out the new video store in my neighborhood, and was blown away by their selection of pre-viewed DVDs. They had a ton of titles I wanted, and they are all two for $20. So the burning question is...Why should I not buy used DVDs? I bought two just to see what I'd get, and...

Framing and lack of headroom in Excalibur

This is really disapointing news to me...I've passed on Excalibur on DVD a few times, but it was on my short list. Now it sounds like I'm glad I did pass...I knew there was a reason I kept my VCR. IMHO this movie should be considered a classic. I can still remember my parents taking me to the...

Looking for some good wire-fu dvds

Okay...so what is "wire-fu".I need some enlightenment. I really liked both Iron Monkey and CTHD...they took me back to my youth and USA's Kung-Fu Theater on Sundays. Are there any other terms regarding Kung-Fu movies that may help me distinguish the various types?

    Wiring up my new setup

I'm still relatively new to this also, but I just went through this and I'll tell you what I learned. 1. I believe the optical cable will give you the best quality from your DVD for sound, but you'll need the video to run through a different cable. 2.I don't know anything about S cables, so...

    Completely confused by speaker wire.

I just used the pin connectors to hook up my system and I have a few tips. 1. Don't expect pin connectors to fit like banana connetors...they will fit kinda loose, the grooves in the pin will "catch" to keep them from coming out. 2. If you're using heavy 12ga (like the Home Depot stuff)...
